How can anyone say "God doesn't exist" ?

Recommended Posts

Yeah the unicorns!

They eat rainbows for their source of energy!

If I pray everyday for 5 mins, I get to ride real unicorn once I die and get accepted into Santa land.

Santa says only the good kids and adults gets to ride the unicorn.

All of the other religion is hearsay, farce, blasphemy, and all those sad people who can not accept the Santa Clause as their god will never get to ride unicorn, and they will be forever working in a barn. Where they have to pick up unicorn shit for rest of their eternal life.

The unicorns do not shit rainbows by the way. Once all the rainbow gets mixed up and you get which color??

It, like my unicorn, is invisible and pink.

********* But I don't think even 40 million years is enough for random straight
>lines to become more than just that.

It's not. But if you had a physical process that went through all those lines and threw out the ugly ones every night, after 40 million years you'd have some incredibly beautiful, intricate drawings.

And process is the right word here too. It doesn't take any being to do the work. The connections are made all by themselves. An electrical charge brings two atoms together and they connect all by themselves (sort of like magnets) when the conditions are right and break apart when conditions change. It goes on for millions and millions of years.

Very simplistic view that appears to work fine if all you consider is the general theory of relativity & macro physics. It is totally inadequate when you throw in quantum mechanics.

...

What qualifications do you have to offer any opinion whatever on quantum mechanics? Do you have a PhD in physics?

That begs the question, do you have a ThD in theology?

My degrees are in subjects that are real and testable. Creation myths of neolithic peoples are cute but hardly relevant.

I understand exactly what you mean. My checkbook is always balanced, I regularly compute MPG for my motorcycle and maybe once a year I have to solve an equation with one or two unknowns. Outside of that, mathematics is amusing but not very relevant in my reality.

If you don't use it, it's not important. If you do use it, nothing else matters. My spiritual relationship with Christ is like that.

Well sure, but the thread is about physics "proving" God exists.

BTW, your new signature is stupid, and not exactly a great example of positive words of encouragement from the Conservative side.

Well, to be fair, he's not a scarecrow and has never been to Oz. The Wizard does just hand out those Doctor of Thinkology diplomas to anyone though. No big whoop. Doesn't even require accurate math.

Odd question, borderline arrogant and elitist. I am more impressed by what someone says, not by how smart they say they are. I spent 8 years in college graduating in science and medicine. I have been learning and practicing for over 30 years. Physics is my passion, I love the stuff.

I don't believe Kallend does, but perhaps you should consider that some other people posting on here might.

Amen! Would that be you?

I made a poke at kallend because he believes he is an authority on all subjects because he has a PhD.

Maybe you should have paid more attention to your passion. Then you'd recognize the pseudo-science mumbo-jumbo in the video you posted.

As it happens, I teach quantum mechanics, which IS the topic under discussion here.

Quantum mechanics - testable and found accurate to the limit of experimental accuracy, error less than 1 part in 10 Trillion.

Theology - not one shred of evidence in support of any of its tenets.

Yeah but can Quantum Mechanics explain why you feel joy sailing the Aegean basking in the sun with a lovely lady by your side?

Other than the ending, which I know offends your delicate sensibilities, please point out the mumbo jumbo. You have my complete attention. Otherwise you are just flapping in the wind.

" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Begging_the_question." aka Petito Pricipi, is a version of circular logic. The expression almost always misused.

IIRC, a Ph.D. trumps a Th.D. by a long shot.

I have a D.D., which is on a par with a Th.D., as well as an M.S., B.S. - and am a B.M.F. as well.

I don't question your credentials. Your application of them amuses me. As I stated earlier, there is no place for them in my reality. Really, I don't even know if a quantum exists for certain. Much less on how to take it apart. You, and some others, say it exists but I have no evidence of it. You speak in terms that have no meaning in my world. For me the vocabulary and terminology is just the stuff of science fiction and fantasy.

Too complicated for me. I'm not that way. It always meant to me, you made me think of question for you.

I do not know how that got garbled up, but I think the link is fixed now.

Irving M. Copi, in his "Introduction to Logic," used an example of Petito Pricipi along the lines of:

People with good literary taste are more likely to read Shakespeare than Harold Robbins.

How can you tell if they have good literary taste?

They are reading Shakespeare, not Harold Robbins.

Here the premise is the conclusion. The answer is thus begging the question.
