"Applicants have to answer three questions about drug use to get benefits, and if they answer yes to any of them, they get referred to urine testing." i would agree it seems like a waste of time and money because no one in their right mind would say yes, knowing they will be tested and lose their benefits. its just silly, a complete waste of time. if you want to drug test them, then drug test them. if you dont want to drug test them then dont. this system seems to have been put in place to fool both parties into believing they are getting their way. this money should have been spent on more welfare for the poor or more jails to incarcerate the poor. depending on your political affiliation."The point is, I'm weird, but I never felt weird." Anvilbrother 0 #3 August 14, 2014 Did you even read your link? QuoteIn July, Tennessee began a drug testing program for applicants to the state’s welfare program. Since then, just one person has tested positive out of more than 800. If you know your coming in to APPLY for welfare you just wait a few weeks till you are clean, then come in clean. Once you have your benefits, and the coast is clear, you are free to smoke weed again. QuoteApplicants have to answer three questions about drug use to get benefits, and if they answer yes to any of them, they get referred to urine testing. If the result is positive, they have to complete a treatment plan and then take another test. If the second comes back positive, they get cut off from benefits for six months. Those who refuse to take a drug test in the first place can’t get benefits. Again did you even read this stupid ass link. Obviously your not going to rat yourself out. Thats like asking a bank robber if he robbed the bank, if he said no he gets to go free.....How about a new broad no biased study that is focused around current recipients, and RANDOM testing! Neither I, nor the writer of the article, made the rules in Tennessee. The data show quite clearly that the rules simply waste time, money and energy. IMO, the Florida study shows its a waste of time to test for drugs. the Tenn study shows its a waste of time for lawmakers in Tenn to exist."The point is, I'm weird, but I never felt weird." Anvilbrother 0 #9 August 14, 2014 Its a waste of time to test APPLICANTS! They know when they are going to go sign up for benefits, they go in clean! Amazon 7 #12 August 14, 2014 normiss You have a warrant to search me??? I don't know about you Mark... but I have been drug tested for every job I have had for the last 20 years. I can also remember the golden flow tests of the 1970s in the military... testing positive had dire consequences.. except if your daddy was a congressman. Personally if they are going to pass a law to test the people on the dole..... they need to include EVERYONE on the public dole. Start with COPS...... if they test positive for proscribed substances perhaps taken from the people they are persecuting.. OFF the force... join the people they loathe so much. Test all the damn politicians... if you are making dumb ass laws to punish the least of us.... than those who are the high and mighty need to be tested as well. ryoder 1,590 #16 August 14, 2014 If there is going to be drug testing, then it needs to include: 1. The drug with the most debilitating mental and physical effects (ethanol). 2. The drug that causes the most death and disease (tobacco). Otherwise, "drug testing" is just a joke."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. normiss 851 #17 August 14, 2014 You cannot force someone to do a warrantless search to provide government benefits. Believe me, I fully understand waiving that right to a job screen piss test or a PC piss test. NOT for government services.
rehmwa 2 #18 August 14, 2014 I like the idea, but it's too cumbersome. Until we have a good screen (or preliminary screen) that gives results pretty much right now, relatively cheaply, and on site, then that kind of testing/criteria is just a concept that can't really be implemented in a cost beneficial way. (I mean pretty much drop hair or a nail clipping into a tube and red or green light comes on within a minute type of thing). Invent that first, then let's talk about it. (I'm sure if the machine existed, then private and public groups would have one on site - so the question about testing public servants.... lawmakers, cops, etc would be in the mix for sure). ...
