I can not in my wildest imagination believe any other racial slur as team name would be tolerated. I find it sort of amazing this one has stood as long as it has.

Like Phil Simms says, I never gave a thought about it and after that I really think that they should change the name. They can keep the logo but they do need to change the name.

People would be outraged if there were a team named, Atlanta Negros, or San Francisco 49 Chinks.

I know! The term 49er has some very negative connotations for miners; it portrays them all as greedy, lawless and unthinkingly hasty.

I've always wondered how the San Diego Padres have avoided controversy, perhaps if durning very close games, the whole stadium was chanting "Our father's" or "Hail Mary's" while dressed as priests and nuns, there may be a bit of an uproar.

I've said it a thousand times before, and it looks like I'll have to say in a thousand more times.

There's a huge difference between team name referencing a tribe of Native Americans, and a team name that references Native Americans as a whole using a racial pejorative.

Why is this so hard to understand?

Well, "beer" perhaps is the wrong term for what you would need to keep on hand. Keystone, Genesee Cream Ale, Schlitz etc would certainly be in demand, though.

No. It is not. "Redneck" refers to a bandana (an article of clothing) tied around a person's neck. Union coalminers to be specific. The meaning has morphed and been co-opted by people like Jeff Foxworthy unclear on its origins, but it's not a racial slur.
