Anvilbrother 0 #303 December 5, 2014 How do they know? In Louisiana when your license plate of your car is ran it only comes up with a name of the registered owner, they would then need to copy and paste that name back into the system manually to pull up your DL, but that doesn't even mean that the owner is the current driver...... I don't know how, but I know positively that they do. Anvilbrother 0 #305 December 5, 2014 Ok cool. Let me know what state also. I could see a cop shooting someone with this knowledge. Pulled over a car, ran plate, found out person has CHL. Cop immediatly has heightened awareness for a possible weapon, person steps out and reaches for wallet, cops shoots person thinking they were going for that gun. Come to find out the owner has a CHL, not the current driver. Postes r made from an iPad or iPhone. normiss 798 #306 December 5, 2014 Are you telling us that cops fear legal gun owners? Here in FL, they know when they run the plates. I've been asked when they approached the vehicle if I had a weapon on me and where it was located. They get a little excited when you keep your papers in the same location for some reason. champu 1 #307 December 5, 2014 "Citizen's Academy" was intended to be a ridiculous concept. It's a place where everyone besides police would have to go to learn each and every thing LEOs are taught to watch for in terms of actions and body language when determining ill intent, thereby allowing them to avoid doing all those things. It makes no sense to claim that all the things you shouldn't do are "common sense" (a lazy term term I don't care for regardless) because if that were the case then police wouldn't require any training on when to draw their weapon or when to fire it, it would also be "common sense" right? Compliance is great, but if you think police are on edge because everyone they talk to might have a weapon then how do you think many people are starting to feel knowing that every LEO that talks to them does have a weapon... and is on edge. Compliance is non-trivial if you've got the stress of someone pointing a gun at you and said LEO doesn't ask for what he or she actually wants. Consider the two scenarios... "Get your hands above your head! Let me see your driver's license!" "Get your hands above your head! Where is your driver's license?"

So now both can shoot each other - and it's perfectly justifiable in both cases. "I saw he was a CHL holder, so I got out of the squad car with my gun drawn, and he pulled a gun on me! Of course I shot him. I have a wife and kids to think of." "My brother was shot and killed by a cop for no reason, so when I saw the cop getting out of his car and aiming a gun at me with no provocation, of course I shot him! I have a right to protect myself."

normiss 798 #312 December 5, 2014 Interesting use of irony in a police discussion. IIRC, the biggest issue to the shootout was the law taking the law into their own hands after not liking the legal results. Spot on topic sir.
