Or, the no-ID crowd actually is way over the top. Or thsi individual is trying to make a point or something, or...... So given those possibilities the one you chose was to extrapolate one person's job performance to an entire "crowd's" political understanding? I thought you pretended not to go in for that sort of thing?I prefer not to. but it seems to resonate better with this crowd. I know you can appreciate it. wolfriverjoe 1,523 #502 November 5, 2014 AnvilbrotherI don't need to be an expert to know that a government agency cannot do that efficiently and in a timely manner. You say all voting is by mail in ballot. From the Oregon website it says that about 1.8 Million vote in the general elections. I dont honestly believe they are able to verify integrity of ballots by that alone is why I call bullshit on the fact that they check each one with one on file. QuoteYou must also sign the outer envelope; and that is compared to the signature that you have on file at the Registrar's office. I hope that there is some barcode and registry system, and not just signatures. Well, a quick google search found that they claim to check each signature. And This Article (from last week), claims that the top reason for ballot rejection is a bad signature. Considering that each individual election office (Seems to be on a county basis) verifies signatures and counts the ballots, it's not that big of a task. It's not one person doing the whole job."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." That appears to be a horrible way of verifying ballots, with low efficiency, and poor reliability. Like a poster said above us, my signature changes from day to day, much less from the time when I registered. What happens to those that "don't match" are they contacted to try again, or is their vote thrown out? Oops I see you voted for ____candidate, your name doesn't match....Trash....Hope it doesn't work like that! Postes r made from an iPad or iPhone. Anvilbrother 0 #505 November 5, 2014 QuoteAgreement in style and general appearance, including basic construction, skill, alignment, fluency, and a general uniformity and consistency between signatures. 2.Agreement in the proportions of individual letters, height to width, and heights of the upper to lower case letters. 3.Irregular spacing, slants, or sizes of letters are duplicated in both signatures. 4.General traits and agreement of the most distinctive, unusual traits of the signatures. 5.Only a signature possessing obvious and predominantly matching characteristics with the signature on the voter registration record may be reviewed and determined to be a match by a single county elections official. A signature possessing one or more distinctive dissimilarities from the signature on the voter registration card shall be reviewed by at least two different county elections officials before it is accepted as a matching signature or rejected as a non-matching signature. 6.A single distinctive trait is insufficient to conclude that the signatures are by thesame writer. There must be a combination or cluster of shared characteristics. Likewise, there must be a combination or cluster of dissimilarities to conclude that the signatures may be by different writers. 7. When evaluating signatures elections officials may review broad characteristics used to evaluate an entire signature as a unit or they may narrow the scope of their examination to that of specific letters within a signature. A list of characteristics for consideration when evaluating an entire signature as a unit and a list of characteristics for consideration when narrowing the scope of the examination to specific letters or combinations of letters. Heres how they handle it QuoteSend a challenge notice and a registration card to the voter indicating that the signature does not match. The issue must be resolved no later than the 10th day after the election. ORS 254.426 • Voter should not be inactivated until after the 10th day after the election. • Resolution requires voter providing sufficient proof in- person or by mail with an updated registration card reflecting the voter’s signature for matching purposes So you have 10 days to in person or with an updated registration card match the signature that you signed the ballot with or they trash your votes..... millertime24 8 #506 November 5, 2014 I voted today. Had to show my DL and shut my phone off or leave it in the car. Nothing about this shook me as "evil". Very nice folks at my precinct. Took less than 5 min. I'm a fl citizen.Muff #5048

champu 1 #508 November 5, 2014 I did not have to show ID. I provided my name and address and they had me sign next to it in their book. They asked me if I needed an audio assisted ballot, I said no, and they handed me the scantron. No line at around 7:45 this morning. I live a little over half mile from my polling location so I walked. As kelpdiver noted in another thread, in California they mail you a sample copy of the ballot a few weeks in advance along with (basically) a printed copy of this website, so you can mark it up ahead of time and bring it with you. Seeing people without any kind of notes was a little disconcerting as there were a total of 42 items to vote on in my area.

As I mentioned upthread, the signatures are on the outside of the 2nd envelope. They have to open both envelopes to see the ballot(s). Jerry Baumchen Thanks for the clarification. I just "searched & skimmed." It sounds like a sensible and well thought out idea. So there's absolutely zero chance it will be implemented elsewhere. billvon 2,990 #514 October 4, 2022 Resurrecting this old thread with a fun note: Alabama GOP Chairman John Wahl has been a staunch proponent of voter ID. He's supported laws that ban voting unless the voter has a valid government ID. You all know what's coming next. First, one day during an election, volunteer poll worker Clyde Martin asked Wahl and his family for ID before they voted. The famuly refused and Martin was promptly let go. After that Wahl started to get a little pushback so he started carrying an ID around. Only problem with that - it's fake. The organization it comes from claims it has no record of him, and it's not a valid ID anyway. But voter ID prevents fraud.
