ryoder 1,590 #210 December 15, 2017 kallend KY State rep Dan Johnson (R) committed suicide following accusations that he molested a friend of his daughter. Seems an extreme reaction. But Johnson had his own record of dubious claims. He claimed he had healed the sick and raised the dead. He claimed he had set up "safe zones" in Los Angeles during the 1992 riots. He claimed he served as a White House chaplain under multiple presidents. He claimed he served as an ambassador to the United Nations. He claimed he set up a morgue and gave last rites to the dying in New York outside the collapsed World Trade Center towers on Sept. 11, 2001. But in a seven-month investigation published Monday, the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting couldn't find evidence that Johnson's stories about himself were true. What the small journalism nonprofit did find was "a trail of police records and court files, shattered lives and a flagrant disregard for truth." normiss 806 #212 December 15, 2017 We've apparently lost the cohesion a society needs. Us vs. them seems quite poisonous to me. I hope we can return to a WE attitude before we destroy ourselves as seems to be the current administration's obsession.
winsor 236 #213 December 15, 2017 SkyDekkerHow do Americans keep electing people like this? Tradition, I suppose. When you consider the assortment of rogues, scalawags and ne'er do wells that swarmed over this continent after Columbus 'discovered' it (Hey, I discovered Europe! Got off the plane and damn, there it was!), it is no surprise that we have been represented by people that, had they not been in elected office, they would have been in prison (or on the gallows, as the case may be). In some cases we have elected people who were incarcerated during the election (see Mayor Curley et al.). I have a tee shirt regarding the four stages of tequila. 1) I'm rich. 2) I'm good looking. 3) I'm bulletproof. 4) I'm invisible. It seems this would apply to political office as well.
