wmw999 2,446 #1 January 1, 2015 There are people who own guns and don't carry; there are people with concealed carry permits who don't carry. There are people without permits who do carry. After Regulator's story about using his gun to warn off some people he thought were behaving in a threatening manner, I was kind of wondering how the dz.com crowd broke out. The poll options are reasonably comprehensive (and wordy ), but further discussion and/or elaboration are welcome, of course. If you live where carrying is possible, but you would never, ever, ever, carry, and think that only morons would carry, well, "don't carry, have never been in a situation where I regretted it" would be the right option. I don't have a militant anti-gunner option, just as I don't have a "everyone should carry" option. Or even a "sometimes I carry" option -- you get to decide if it's sometimes enough to say you carry, or rarely enough that you say you don't. Y'all have fun now, y'hear? I'll take 1,2,4,5, and of course 8. in the order of relevance and what helped make up my mind was 5, mugged in KC, Mo. No harm but loss of peace of mind. 4, similar story in Miami, Fl. Broken nose and lacerations, slight concussion 2, Miami again, after Hurricane Andrew, Psycho woman fired three rounds into my soffit in front of my door. Discharged 1 round, perp left, cops arrived and found woman in next apartment. Two days later, stopped looters from entering my house. after telling them I was armed, they persisted, one warning shot and they left. 1, for the above reasons, I still and will always carry. 8 is obvious.I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun

Just because you can't trust yourself with a firearm doesn't mean everyone else feels the same way. I've been taught by one of the best from a very young age. I train at least once every other week to maintain that level of proficiency. I don't carry on my person. My sidearm is in a lock box in my car. JerryBaumchen 1,363 #14 January 1, 2015 Hi Wendy, Quote Y'all have fun now, y'hear? I try, and sometimes I succeed. I've been the victim of a beating by thugs; a racial thing that I should not have let myself get into the environment. I've been the victim of a riot; had my car burned & life threatened. When I was 13 I went up to the hardware store & bought a used rifle ( $5 total ). I quaified while in Basic Training. I have never shot a gun or owned one since those days. I prefer a life without guns. Jerry Baumchen
billvon 2,991 #15 January 1, 2015 6) I was mugged in NYC. He has his arm around my throat and his hand in my back pocket before I knew what was going on. I assumed it was Dave (friend of mine, acted like Kato from the Pink Panther movies) and I put my elbow in his stomach. Which never works with Dave but it worked this time; I didn't realize it wasn't Dave until I saw him on the ground. My wallet was in my front pocket anyway. Glad that I didn't have a gun that he could have gone for.

champu 1 #17 January 2, 2015 I think the at home defense scenario is quite distinct from the defensive carry scenario. Both, if you choose, require a fair amount of training and safety precautions. Like skydiving, there are several ways to get youself or someone you know hurt or killed by having firearms in your house but people are really not inventing new ways, so it's disingenuous to call it a roll of the dice. It's going to vary by locale, but home invaders are usually there for your stuff, not you. But they are breaking into your house, after all, and so they may not be the best at contingency planning. If they encounter you there and panic it's anybody's guess what they'll do. You mention that there are some people who don't care if you have a gun and I would surmise this is a small subset of the people who don't care if you have a baseball bat, particularly if they are bigger than you. Where any intruder that tries to break into my house draws the line in running away is not of interest to me.
craddock 0 #18 January 2, 2015 Have CCW. Never really ever carried on my person other than hunting and rarely around the house/yard in certain situations. I have kept my Sidearm in the locked hard saddlebag of my Harley. Have discharged my p226 late one night on my girlfriends private property after some run ins with a known bad biker gang(I don't dig those pukes at all). I had a whole summer of getting attacked and ruined my golf game from injuries that someones head inflicted on my hand. I discharged only because they kept approaching after I warned that I had a weapon and they did not believe. The man was drunk and at that minute I realized he was unarmed(it was thought he would be) and I wished I was also. I considered throwing it into the brush and handling it another way but I had second to think and pointing behind my feet and squeezed a round into the dirt at 3 am, hit the decocker(SA/DA) and put the laser center mass and starting calling local dispatch. Scared the fuck out of him and was the last altercation with this one after 4 of them that summer. To be fair I did clearly warn him I was done fucking around and he was ruining my golf game and I was done fighting them. Of course all this could have been prevented by not deciding to ride with a bad biker gang and even more for letting them know how I feel about their dangerous behavior. I have got into a situation where I was extremely upset during rifle hunting season at someone from a neighboring camp who showed very poor judgement. When I came out of the woods and drove by their part on the 4 wheeler everyone was outside after just getting back. I drove to my Dad's cabin, got rid of my 1911, and went right back to have some serious word with the asshole. My brother thought I was crazy for taking the sidearm of first. Since it was kind of a semi open carry situation I never even considered another option. Zero need to add complexity to the situation. Turned out the other party's entire camp was on my side and felt stuck this guy was in their group That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! It was just on the downwind side.

JohnnyMarko 1 #25 January 5, 2015 It's funny you brought up this thread, cause I had an, encounter we'll call it, this weekend. After a day of skiing, my friends needed to return their rentals back down in Denver. In the parking lot, a gigantic fucking twat waffle of a dude pulls up in a giant pickup truck with Texas plates and those dumb exhaust pipes coming from the bed of the truck spewing smoke everywhere (I can only assume he has a tiny dick). Anyway, he gets out of the car and I notice a handgun tucked in the back of his pants. He covers it up and walks into the ski store. When he came out, I asked him why he felt it was necessary to carry a gun into a ski-shop....his response...."Can't trust you damn hippies and niggers here in Denver".......
