The NRA & Frontline

***I just now streamed it.

Yes, their POV was that of the anti-gun crowd, but I would also look at it as flattering to the NRA for portraying them as a very polished and effective lobbying machine, and for showing LaPierre as a master of politics.

I watched it on the PBS website. It didn't seem to me that they had a POV one way or the other. It seemed more like a general history of why the gun debate is where it's at today, without saying one "side" or the other is wrong.

Frontline is well known for their neutrality in reportage. The issue is, as soon as anyone says the word "guns" everybody loses their mind.

I thought they drew an interesting comparison at one point between the "gun" issue and religion. Pretty much impossible to have a rational discussion from the middle when people on the extremes can't get past the notion there may be a middle.

If it doesn't come down solidly on the side of the NRA, there's a decent contingent of people who will put it down as anti-gun. It's that whole "if you're not with us, you're against us" thing.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)
