airdvr 210 #3 February 18, 2015 This article is so bent it needs a body shop. Sounds like it's one AP history course. From the link...(bolding is mine) Say hello to the state Legislature of Oklahoma, where the House education committee voted Monday to bar advanced placement U.S. history courses from state high schools. later in the article... Education mavens will recognize the vote as an outgrowth of a campaign against the AP U.S. history course launched last summer by the Republican National Committee, which decided that the College Board's newly-issued outline, or "framework," for the AP course was infused with a radical progressive bias and insufficiently laudatory about American "exceptionalism." So it would appear that there is one course written by some flaming liberal that they've chosen to ignore. WTG John...Please don't dent the planet. DanG 1 #4 February 18, 2015 Um, yeah. It is one course, it is called Advanced Placement History. AP courses are counted as college credit at many universities. The state is saying that its students can't take a class that will help them in college because it isn't Conservative enough. Way to go. - Dan G

It doesn't adequately (note that I don't say "accurately) showcase the "exceptionalism" of the US. You know, slavery, genocide of the indians, corporate abuses, that sort of thing. I'm not sure that would be a "conservative" thing. More of an "idiot" thing. Although the vote was a straight party line vote. And the conservatives were the ones voting for it."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." jakee 1,500 #6 February 19, 2015 QuoteSo it would appear that there is one course Wow, it's a good thing you highlighted that, otherwise I don't think anyone would have noticed that the article was about AP history. Your detective skills are truly outstanding. Quotewritten by some flaming liberal Really? You going to back that up in some way, or just take it for granted?Do you want to have an ideagasm? Easy solution . . . change the course and tell more of a bipartisan"?" or balanced lesson. Seems pretty simple to me - they just don't want to be rail roaded or have the liberal agenda "shoved down their throats"I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun

billvon 3,008 #12 February 19, 2015 QuotePretty simple...are they blocking all AP History courses or just the one? They are blocking all current AP US history courses in Oklahoma. No exceptions. From the bill: "Schools; directing the State Board of Education to adopt a certain United States History program and assessment; prohibiting the expenditure of funds on the Advanced Placement United States History course; effective date; emergency." I predict they will maintain their hissy fit until the history in the course is replaced with the propaganda that fits the correct conservative agenda. Some of the approved material that is specifically listed in the bill to replace the current content: The sermon known as "A Model of Christian Charity" by John Winthrop, The sermon known as "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" by Jonathan Edwards The Ten Commandments The surrender speech made by Chief Joseph The Cross of Gold speech made by William Jennings Bryan But that's not all. Sure, they banned AP history, but if schools buckle and implement the above material, they get some sweet kickbacks! From the bill: "Additional grants to school sites demonstrating successful implementation, as defined by the State Board of Education, of the courses for which the first grants were awarded."
