skycop 0 #76 March 12, 2015 Quote No. As you well know he did not 'simply suggest' that someone take a ride along, and you're being deliberately disingenuous by describing his post as such. I realize disagreeing with you is being disingenuous, but please indulge me. Quote He stated that no-one had any foundation to criticize the cops unless they had one a ride along.* So it does follow that no-one should be able to defend the cops unless they've seen and experienced the bad side as well. Don't worry, I know he was being disingenuous.......... Quote Right, because the experience of one shift with one officer should be axtrapolated to cover all behaviour by all officers. Maybe you haven't heard this one before, but the plural of anecdote is not data. Who ever said it was data? It was merely a suggestion to ride with an officer for one shift. The vast majority of people who rode with me extrapolated that: "I rode with this guy for one shift, and he put up with all this shit for that shift. He does this everyday, and there are 799,000 more like him. I couldn't imagine what they put up with"..... Not all went like that, if it was a slow night, it was a slow night. Even then, the radio traffic alone was enough to peak their interest. But evidently we are masters at covering all the "bad" stuff up after being reviewed by our peers, supervision, administration, several layers of courts, and the media. AND we are offering to let our detractors see what we do unfiltered. If that's being disingenuous, then call me disingenuous. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" C'mon Jakee, the point is to witness the types of people cops deal with on a daily basis and why they may feel compelled to shoot someone who attacks them...no racism needed. You might have a point if you could send me on racist ride-a-longs where the majority of cops turn out to be the murderous assholes. ...anyway, in this day and age I don't see why cops can't deploy more effective non lethal force regardless of the perps intentions or mental state.Never was there an answer....not without listening, without seeing - Gilmour

Because one cop dying because non-lethal force was not sufficient is not acceptable. Civilians dying because of a misapplication of lethal force is an unfortunate event but is explainable due to the type of work LEO does and the type of people they deal with.
