From Chicago, even! One of the worst politically corrupted cities in America and the worst gun violence even! :o

False. Chicago doesn't even make the top 20 in terms of gun crimes per 100,000 population.

Memphis, Miami, Atlanta, St. Louis, KC, Baltimore, Detroit, Birmingham... all have higher rates.

I'm sure the 291 people shot and 61 Chicagoans who died in the first 2.5 months of 2015 will take great solace in knowing that John.

And those numbers don't even get them in the top 20?

Good thing the US doesn't have a violence problem more guns couldn't fix.

Indeed. John benefits greatly from the population numbers and the fact that there are quite a few nice neighborhoods within the city proper to offset the warzone neighborhoods.

I suppose the concept of crime RATE doesn't mean anything to you.

Here are about 300 cities with populations over 100k. So taking pride in being above the fifth percentile is a pretty interesting thing. Again, it's nothing to worry about for most white people there or in DC or Detroit or Baltimore. The coloreds have been kept away.

Crime rate means something. But death toll also means something. It's why when a tornado hits somewhere and is deadly we don't read that less than a thousandth of one percent of the US population was killed in the event. What percentage of the population of NYC was killed on 9/11?

Sometimes raw numbers can actually be important.

Obviously, though, raw numbers are more important than statistics at some times and are less important than statistics at other times.

According to My Learned Friend's reasoning, a town of 500 where everyone is murdered, is safer than a city of 5,000,000 where 501 people are murdered.

It would be after the murders.

Unless the murders are by booby traps and there are some left in town that haven't yet been tripped.

.
or the murderer(s) are from out of town
.
.
or the murders were due to the intentional planting of a zombie drug

0/0 is indeterminate. You should know that. Hence you can't make that claim:P

And according to my Distinguished Friend, a town of 1,000,000 where 400,000 are killed is safer than a town of 2 where one person is killed.

Let's call this a draw.

the rate at which the numerator approached zero was faster than the rate at which the denominator approached zero - therefore something something - due to zombies

enough is enough though - clearly I'm at my limits

Look, anybody can cherry-pick stats to support their view.

Here's one showing Chicago as the most murderous city. http://mic.com/articles/64279/the-15-most-murderous-cities-in-the-united-states

What say ye, o mighty anti-gun nutter from the city whose gun control laws have failed to contain the violence?

Umm - no, according to L'Hopital's rule, the limit as N ->0 would be 1/1, so the small town would still be more dangerous.

So, according to you too, a city of 500 where every person is murdered would be safer than Chicago.

That is the reason that crime rates are given on a per 100,000 basis.

Regardless of political affiliation this move is a disgrace. It shows total disrespect. It further highlights the dire situation the US is in, where partisan sniping is more important than anything else.

I totally agree. It was a disgraceful and idiotic move. Calling it treason and the like just shifts the conversation.

Of course a town where all 500 occupants are killed, would be safer. There won't be anybody left to kill. :D

No, it doesn't.
It needs to be looked at/examined as a distinct possibility.

Plus the GOP/TEA doesn't mince words. It is time that Democrats stop being nice and playing civil as that approach hasn't worked in 6y+!
