A trip back in time--which athlete at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Quebec, Canada would you say best exemplified timeless qualities of manliness?

It's good to see that the usual blatant racism is joined by blatant disparagement of LGBT in speakers corner.

Along with the disparagement of other "psychological oddballs" that YOU don't like...

Were you drunk posting?

I beg to differ. I think it's good to look back. How many people today do you think remember Bruce Jenner's accomplishments back in 1976?

To look at the man he was and turn around and see him as the woman he is today I think is a good thing. It challenges peoples preconceived notions and maybe even gets them to open their eyes to the people in the LGBT community.

A little bit ago I think someone by the name of Eric Holder gave a speech about being a "Nation of Cowards." By immediately playing the race card and trying to shut down the conversation I think you have placed yourself squarely in the "coward" category.

Through the looking glass

Good movie - must see
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2567026/

The plot is still unknown, but my sources say that it depicts a world where people destroy their own progeny yet condemn the execution of convicted madmen.

They fight for the legalization of drugs because prohibition never works except when it comes to things they don't like, such as guns...

They're really against bigotry unless it's religious bigotry.

They agree that religious denigration is deplorable and detrimental to society, yet later in the film they say the faithful are just psychological oddballs that suffer from delusions/hallucinations - and then they call OTHERS the insulting, condescending pricks.

In this world, conservatives are pro-choice because they believe abortion could significantly thwart future liberal influence, therefore the liberals argue that abortion is anti-christian.

Take your mind back, I don't know when
Sometime when it always seemed
To be just us and them
Girls that wore pink
And boys that wore blue
Boys that always grew up better men
Than me and you

What's a man now, what's a man mean
Is he rough or is he rugged
Is he cultural and clean
Now it's all changed, it's got to change more
Cause we think it's getting better
But nobody's really sure

And so it goes, go round again
But now and then we wonder who the real men are

How many other dz.comers were in Montreal during the summer of 1976?

I was there. But I wasn't holding an FNC1 (though surprisingly 4 years later not only did I get to shoot the FNC1, I also got to shoot the FNC2). ;)

Anyway I grew up in Montreal and at the ripe old age of 12 the Summer Olympics came to town and I got to go see a few soccer games at Olympic stadium, some indoor cycling at the velodrome, judo also at the velodrome, some swimming and rowing events, oh and I also got to see a waterpolo match. I got to see Olga Korbut perform her magic in women's gymnastics during one of the preliminary events. But the big highlight for me during those Olympics was that I got to go to the women's gold medal volleyball match at the old Forum. That was an amazing event. I was astonished at how well those girls could play the game. Of course Bruce Jenner's decathlon performance was amazing on TV, and yes I actually remember the name of East Germany's best swimmer without needing to google it, Kornelia Ender (okay I'll fess up, I did look her name up to make sure I got the spelling correct) as Kornelia kicked butt in the pool aided of course by steroids. But the bitter sweet moment for us Canuckle'heads during the 1976 Summer Games was when Greg Joy came out of nowhere to win the silver medal in the men's high jump, on the last night of the games. But by failing to win the gold, Canada (repeated again in Calgary in 1988) has been the only host nation to never win an Olympic gold medal as the host nation. Of course we redeemed ourselves at the 2010 winter games in Vancouver where we not only won our first gold as the host nation, but we won more gold medals than any other nation in 2010.

Oh and clearly this thread was started to make fun of Bruce (err I mean Caitlyn) Jenner which is rather sad. Let's hope that as skydivers we can show that we can think outside of the box versus the rest of the judgmental world. Whatever normal is, I assure you I am not it and I am pretty sure no licensed skydiver is normal as well. By the way what is normal? Oh who cares, we're not it. haha

To answer the OP: ME!

I spent the summer of 1976 guarding athletes in Montreal, FN C1A1 rifle, loaded with 7.62 X 51 mm ammunition, etc.

How many other dz.comers were in Montreal during the summer of 1976?

FIFY - aka 7.62 NATO or .308 Winchester (SAAMI guise)

5 mm is a pretty short case, a .22 Short being 10.7 mm

That was a great song, way before its time. I have to listen more Joe Jackson these days.
