rushmc 23 #7 August 6, 2015 kallend Perp had been committed 4 times. Good job he didn't have a real gun, or he might have killed his victims instead of just inflicting minor injuries. Reported late yesterday He had an airsoft gun Now, what laws would you propose? Do we need to ban hatchets too?"America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." DanG 1 #8 August 6, 2015 I'm pro gun rights, but are you really going to argue that a hatchet is as good a weapon for inflicting multiple woulds on multiple targets as a gun? Guns are weapons, and they are good at what they do. If he had a gun, he probably would have been able to cause much more damage. Pretending that isn't true just makes you look silly. - Dan G

champu 1 #11 August 6, 2015 It's certainly more difficult to cause as much damage with an ax as it is with a firearm if you're someone who is, in all likelihood, not fully aware of where you are or what you're doing. I have no qualms with firearm laws that would or may have prevented this guy from getting a gun or even from keeping guns if he already owned them. He had been committed multiple times. But, as I've said before, I don't think there's an amount of crazy where the correct action is to simply make sure the person doesn't have guns. To tout this event as a success of any kind of firearm law is as ridiculous as the notion that this guy was collected enough to have chosen the location because it was a "gun-free zone." But that's the state of the gun debate these days.

wmw999 2,459 #20 August 7, 2015 It's usually better to prevent a problem from happening, it's generally cheaper than solving it. Depends on the likelihood of the problem, of course, but I'd rather have fewer armed nuts, rather than more armed (and untrained) guys hoping for an opportunity to be heroes. wmw999 2,459 #22 August 8, 2015 So your contention is that it's cheaper and better to wait for problems to develop and solve them one at a time?
