SStewart 13 #31 January 4, 2016 I am from the great state of Oregon and I was a wild land firefighter in the NW for over 24 years. I have been to Burns many times on fire assignments and I am very familiar with the area. The Malhuer NWR headquarters is an administrative building, a small office with a front desk with info and maps. There are offices with desks, computers, a lunch room with leftovers from the Christmas party, etc. Real tyrannical stuff. They broke in on a Saturday when the place was closed up and locked for the weekend. Real brave. Why not march on the regional HQ at the federal building in Portland? Much easier to take over a lonely outpost in the middle of nowhere. The people that work there will probably get some administrative leave. It would be weird to go to the office Monday morning when your office is being occupied by armed goons. So these idiots are preventing the locals from going to work and making a living. The other building they are "taking over" is the Frenchglen guard station which is closed in the winter but is used as a fire station in the summer months. Why do they hate firefighters? The hammonds were guilty and convicted by a jury of their peers. They committed intentional arson to cover up poaching and put firefighters at risk. If a firefighter had been killed working on the fire they would be guilty of murder. No sympathy for them at all. The Bundy boys and their armed militia thugs are criminals and dangerous. We let them go last time and two of their members killed two police officers. They are not wanted in Oregon and they must be brought to justice. Can you imagine if a group of armed Muslims broke into a public building and took it over and started making demands? How would that go? Burns is a small town and the federal government is the largest employer. Half the people in the town work for the US Forest Service, the BLM, and the Fish and Wildlife service. Every local has at least one family member working and making a living that way. Are they trying to split families apart and start a small scale civil war? It does not make any sense at all. We appeased these terrorists before and that did not work. I hope for a peaceful resolution here but you can not just "let them go" They have to be arrested and prosecuted.Onward and Upward!
