What if Despicable Donald's rise is part of the prophesied End Times? Maybe Christians will vote for him to bring on the Trump. You know, I've wondered about that. There was a documentary (if you can call it that, more like an op ed piece) a few years back talking about the end times and the apocalpyse and the anti-Christ. IIRC, there would be a calamitous war between good and evil in the middle east, and the anti-christ would appear. I don't really remember details, but I thought it did mention that it would happen during the reign of the 2nd pope after John Paul II, which is the current reign now. Do I really believe it? I don't know. It can be interpreted any which way. However, Nostradamus seemed to have predicted plenty of events in the future, though the translation and terminology of Nostradamus's time proved a challenge in finding actual events that they may refer to. kallend 2,027 #1230 June 3, 2016 Speaker Ryan supports Trump: Another Republican weasels out: “Paul Ryan in many ways is the antithesis of Donald Trump; he’s everything that Donald Trump is not. He’s a decent human being. He is a conservative. He is steeped in public policy. He cares about ideas. He’s a person who conducts himself with civility and grace in public life. He doesn’t put down his opponents,” said Peter Wehner, a former policy aide to President George W. Bush and a personal and ideological compatriot of Ryan’s for two decades.... gowlerk 2,205 #1231 June 3, 2016 Ryan sells out. In the end individual Rs have to make a decision about right and wrong. After months of pointing out that Trump is wrong the lure of the remote possibility of power is enough to make most of them do what they know is wrong. Probably they are calculating their place in the party in the aftermath of the Trump debacle that is coming. Do you go with party loyalty in the face of what you know is wrong? Or stand on principle? For a while it looked like Ryan was one of the few with principles. But in the end, he tested the wind and just fell into line. For the same reason Donald is really that bad for Dems. (both for your exact reasons) I think the wild card in the power struggle is pretty much that Donald is also bad for the Republicans. quade 4 #1235 June 3, 2016 rehmwaI think the wild card in the power struggle is pretty much that Donald is also bad for the Republicans. Trump is going to be horrible for everyone involved even if they don't yet realize it. Trump's is one of most successful con-men in the country. With some politicians that would be a bit of hyperbole, but in Trump's case it's literally true. It's his defining characteristic. It's pretty much the only thing he has any experience at. How anyone can vote for him to be the single most powerful person in the free world, regardless of party affiliation, is beyond me. That's why I suspect a fair number are going to vote for Hillary. Not because they support her (in fact they hate her) but because they know how to spend the next 4 years refusing to do any work and blaming her for the lack of progress. They don't know how to defend Trump - and they realize that even making that effort may doom their party for a decade.

So sure, those in power would be able to do just that - so, you got about 300 swings votes there, in a country of 300M....... But voters aren't rational, and Quade says true - he's a con man, and con men are experts at manipulating the irrational. of course, it's also not rational to vote for a liar, someone that threatens rape victims, someone that lets her own people get killed, etc...... we're still screwed either way, so the original Gowlerk comment still wins - it's not about the individual in the office - it'll be about advancing one or the other party's power base...... jcd11235 0 #1243 June 3, 2016 rehmwaand a small percentage of ignorant assholes on each side that are voting for those two Considering that Clinton has a greater proportion (and a majority) of the popular (primary) vote in 2016 than Obama had in 2008, it's not accurate to claim that she's not the first choice of most Democrats. On the other hand, Trump won many states not by winning the majority, but by the Republicans having too many candidates, and his minority of supporters being a little bit bigger than the minority of supporters for the other candidates.
