Why your premiums are so high

>There would be no course of action for antitrust.

Yet police, the military, roads, air traffic control, EMS services, water services and utilities work pretty well under that model.

I suppose you haven't heard of deregulation of utilities.

I have. But they are still controlled by public utilities commissions - and have effective monopolies. You cannot choose to use SDG+E where you live; you have to use whatever utility owns the lines that go to your house.

Compare that to single payer. Under single payer, you can be as deregulated as you like. You can choose from two - ten - a hundred different doctors if you want. It is single PAYER not single PROVIDER.

Why don't you ever give any synopsis of the links you post?

Works for me. But Americans won't accept it because too many of them see it as freebies for lazy ass ethnic types.

Yes, that is the only reason. No one actually doesn't like it because of the economic or social issues that are indicated. The only reason to disagree with it is due to nefarious and horrible character flaws of lowbrow neanderthals from the bottom 25% IQ of the nation.

Pointless strawmen like that are reason why people can't have reasoned discussions. Both sides do it. The thing that's annoying is they aren't played at the end of a discussion out of frustration as just an impotent slam on the opponents. The impotent slams are played immediately without even trying to understand both sides. It's lazy and political. It happens on every single issue now. I think people aren't even fanatical anymore, they are just lazy and bumper sticker opinions are just easier to vomit out.

(This is a general comment, gowlerk, sorry that your post is the one to set it off, but it's a perfect example. At least in this thread you are trying to flesh it out a bit.)

However, it does make Speaker's Corner very predictable.

It was meant to get a rise, I'm surprised it took so long for someone to take the bait. Of course this is not the only reason. But I do believe there are enough people who feel this way that it tips the balance in the US against the kind of universal health care system that every other first world country uses in one form or another.

It's not everyone, not even close. In my country I know first hand of many who resent the money spent on health care, particularly for first nations people. They tend to be very poor, and often not very compliant in taking care of themselves. I know people who consider it money thrown away. And if they had a choice, would prefer not to have their taxes used to pay the costs.

There is no shortage of people who just can not relate, and feel resentful of those who look and live differently than the majority. I truly believe that this is the one factor that makes the difference in the case of the US. Your long history of racial division, although on the mend, is not yet healed.

In Canada there was a bitter fight when Medicare became universal. But it was the doctors and others with skin in the game who were against it. In the US the fight is deeper. It goes to a gut level. It is a fight between those with good jobs who feel reasonable secure in their health insurance and those who can see the folly of the wasted money and the almost random suffering imposed on those with the misfortune of needing medical care without insurance.

In other threads here we have people who speak of "thugs" and "feral people". This is only a subset of Americans who feel this anger, but once again I think there are enough of them to make a difference. For now. The times they are a changing (again). This time it is the demographic shift that is beginning to alter the balance.

yeah, I know - else you would have just kept up the bumper sticker comments later instead trying to add content.....

(less your comment, more than it's just the standard content on these forums, even the smart players - frankly, especially the smarter people. it's like no one even cares to try anymore or they are just so smug they don't care to. Maybe the regular crowd should just meet at a boogie and then stand in a circle and kick each other in the balls for an evening......then drinks, and jumps. It would be a boogie after all)
