If you're going to pray for something, make it something better than a "show of mercy" that results in an empty suit and combover taking such a high office.

Better yet, get off your knees and do something nice for someone.

I am the one you are referring to, not DanG.

I am active in my Christian based community. We are praying for Trump to be elected. We do not want more socialism, or more illegal aliens, or more potential terrorists entering our country. We believe he is the best choice.

However, we have become so decadent as a nation we may just get HRC to bring about the catastrophic change that is needed.
Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

make this country great again

I hear this used a lot, but what does that mean? When was the country great and what are the measurement criteria?

Great impersonation of Jeff Daniels playing Will McAvoy.

Nice try on the set up, but I'm not the sorority girl.

It's not a setup. Make America great again is a great soundbite, but what does it mean?

When was America great? How is it measured and what needs to happen to reach that milestone again?

It is one of the main things you mention that you want to have happen. So what would that look like?

Well, she didn't have an answer either, so it kinda looks like you are.

Fuck you. If it wasn't for when America was great; you're little island wouldn't exist.

ETA: My own Grandfather was a member of the USA Costal Artillery Corps (CAC) and sat on the hills of your island in its defense during WWII.

When America was great, you foreign fucks talked to us more pleasantly because you weren't sure when you might need us again.

Fuck the English & the Canucks for not knowing enough about your own history to be thanking us, rather than throwing rocks at our way of life and being insulting.

Yeah, I'm gonna get banned, but at least I have the balls to not hide my PAs behind stupid rhetoric.

Best to make the ban till next year sometime.

So you want to go back roughly 70 years. That is when America was great?

And really they should thank the Japanese, cause up until then you guys were too scared to do anything. Other than fund the Nazis of course. Your beloved Bush family got quite rich funding the gassing of millions.

I'm not a little island. (And yes we would. Hitler gave up on invasion plans when he got too deep into it with the Russians, way before you guys came along.)

And, just like the sorority girl, you still don't have an answer. So what's the difference between America then and now? It can't be the strength of the military, you're even more disproportionately strong now than you were then (and massively stronger than before you entered the war. Current pro-military factions in the US would break down in tears at how weak and unprepared your armed forces were pre-Pearl Harbour). So was it the economy? The supposed family values? The much lower divide between CEO pay and worker pay? The willingness to rip up the constitution and incarcerate US citizens and legal aliens without due process? What?
Do you want to have an ideagasm?

America had less to do with wining WWII than what most American's think we did. The Third Reich had basically figured out around '42 that invading England was not going to be successful due to the amount of resources it was going to take for a full invasion and occupying force. Once they opened up the Eastern front they basically had committed themselves to no longer landing on British soil and instead were going to just continue to bomb until England agreed to leave Fortress Europe alone so they could then focus on just the Eastern front. The Russians are the ones that once they got drawn in in June of '41 via Operation Barbarossa that really started to hinder the German war effort. By the time the US landed at D-Day in June of '44 the Russians had killed over 2million Germans, destroyed tens of thousands of pieces of armor and had suffered losses of over 5 million troops and around 4 million civilians. They had stopped the Eastern advance in the fall of '42 and tied the Axis forces up in Leningrad for 2 years while sapping their manpower and supplies despite suffering massive losses.

US Involvement on the Western front was massive in terms of removing the occupying forces but if you just look at the raw numbers of causalities its clear that the US involvement was not near as large as a lot of other countries. US total causalities via both Europe and the Pacific have been cited at around 419,000. Russia lost 8-11 million soldiers, UK was 380k, France was 210k, Yugoslavia was 350k, China had 3-4 million soldiers also killed in the Pacific.
Yesterday is history
And tomorrow is a mystery

You know and I know that the difference the Trumpeteers are longing for is for America to return to a time when white people dominated and the coloreds knew their place.

WOW - by your corrections - you just called Keith a racist and a mysoginist.

Not even thinly veiled.

Politely . . . Kind of - but still - Yeah - well done!

You guys are so right about him.:S

I can't believe that anyone or your supposed caliber has such a narrow view of reality.

Of ruse it has nothing whatsoever to do with things like "Common Core", 400million dollar cash payments to Iran, or bowing in front of a Saudi King.

It is absolutely the "Mad Men" era that he is speaking to.

I'm disgusted that you would think that way.

Open your world view a little - let go of your hate.

Hence why I asked him to explain what he meant. He didn't strike me as necessarily a Trump supporter, so I didn't really see gowlerk's comment as a reflection on Keith.

Unfortunately in stead of explaining what he meant, Keith threw a temper tantrum, so not sure what he meant.

I actually had included you in the comment - but removed you, as it was W-Joe that "fixed it for you"

I believe Keith wants people to have PRIDE in America again.
Similar to when the Kennedy phrase "Ask not what . . . " was so popular, instead of the money grubbing attitude, entitlement, and government dependency we see today.

As is Trumps message - some people get it, some people think America is too arrogant to exist.

Under the last two presidents, our respect as a country has dwindled considerably.

Listen to Trump speak - he's on right now.

Listen to what he says, and open your mind a bit.

I'll not be voting for him. The reasons are beside the point.

I've tried listening to what he says. He speaks a lot, but doesn't say much.

What specifically are you hearing from him I'm not?

A non political realistic view of the way things are rather than what the main media and the controllers of that media would have us believe.

Except nothing really has changed too dramatically since those days. And I don't think that is Trumps message at all. I see Trumps message as very similar to ultra right nationalist and racists movements.

His message also continuously changes and what is there is outrages it is laughable. Not sure how clearly unconstitutional proposals would allow people to feel pride in the country again?

Maybe, but for very different reasons IMHO.

Except what he is saying today, he will change tomorrow. He has done that so many times now. Is that why you suggest people open their minds when they listen to him? Because they have to guess at what he really means?

And just as a side note, not agreeing with somebody doesn't mean you have a closed mind.

Based on what Trump has said about various issues including but not limited to the use of nuclear devices, I'm reasonably certain he doesn't have a "realistic view of the way things are."

While I would agree that education is probably the main factor behind luck with natural resources in terms of making a nation great, I would be amazed if the majority of Trump supporters (or of anyone who uses the phrase 'make America great again') share that opinion.

Oh, another Hollywood historian.

There were NO Americans is the USA Coastal Artillery in Britain at the ONLY time its invasion was possible: July - September 1940. After Operation Sea Lion was postponed on Sept 17, 1940 there were no further Nazi plans to to invade and Hitler turned east instead.

Britain had inflicted two major defeats of the Nazis (Battle of Britain, El Alamein) before a single US soldier engaged in combat with Germans.

And USSR killed more Nazis than all other allied nations combined.

>I believe Keith wants people to have PRIDE in America again.

Most of us do.

>Under the last two presidents, our respect as a country has dwindled considerably.

69% of the world has a favorable view of the US. (Pew 2015) The only big countries that don't are Russia (understandable; they see us as standing in the way of their invasions of other countries) Lebanon, Jordan and Pakistan. 58% have confidence in Obama as a leader - again, except for Russia and a few other countries where we are targeting terrorists.

Confidence in the US under Bush took a big hit - only 30% of the EU had any confidence in the US during that time. Under Obama that number is up to around 70%. So we are are both respected and becoming more so. The only big issue that people worldwide do NOT have respect for Obama on is climate change - they think he should be doing more.

Why do we have this respect? Partly because we have been managing to not start a lot of wars lately. Partly because we put our money where our mouths are - we support the UN to the tune of 3 billion a year, we support foreign aid with about 30 billion of US money and 20 billion of private money. And other countries see that. We spend money we don't have to on disaster relief, hunger, disease and climate change.

So most of us do have pride in America - what it has done in the past and what it is going to do in the future. We are willing to take on tough problem (like fighting terrorism, combating AIDS, dealing with climate change) even if we sometimes screw up (the Iraq war, Somalia, Vietnam.) And the worst parts of America - the racial hatred, the bigotry, the xenophobia, the greed, the self-centeredness - are on the decline, and have been for about 150 years now.

Yup, the loss in respect comes when discussing why so many Americans severely dislike Obama and how it leads to people like Trump becoming viable candidates.

And yet, Hillary is running against the only candidate she can possibly beat. What does that say about her and the other side of the same damn coin?

Yeah, when I said that I'd vote for Charlie Manson before I'd vote for Hillary, it didn't occur to me that they could and would up the ante.

Actually that's part of the equation. She is more qualified for the job than most president's in history. Yet there is such intense dislike for her, which is mostly unreasonable.

The millions wasted on Benghazi, which the Republicans admitted was merely to try and hinder her campaign.

Even now they are calling for another email investigation. This is based on a setup previously used by Republicans in the same position.

From an outsider's perspective this dislike for Obama and Hillary Clinton has similar backgrounds. They have nothing to do with their abilities though.

Well - let's look at it in the immediate past and the present.
1) Shovel ready jobs - I guess they weren't quite so shovel ready, "heh heh".
2) If you like your doc and plan, you can keep your doc and plan. How'd that work out for millions?
3) The only way I know he to wipe a server is to use a rag . . . (Paraphrased)
4) It only so I could use one device . . . for convenience.

I could go on - but you get the point.

People are just tired of being pissed on and told its rain.

BE HONEST - They'll vote for you.
(Or at least seem to be the more genuine)
