"He suggested that Feinstein's decision may discourage potential witnesses from testifying before the Judiciary Committee....

Fusion GPS had demanded that the transcript be released.

Co-operation will discourage potential witnesses from speaking? :S

Russian investigation updates:

Trump is once again proclaiming his innocence, and talking about how all this will be wrapped up soon. This comes after his lawyer's prediction in November that the investigation would wrap up "shortly after Thanksgiving." He later adjusted that to "wrap up by the end of the year." (Although to be fair he didn't say WHICH year.)

Unfortunately for Trump, Mueller has just hired a cybercrime prosecutor, signaling the opening of a new phase of the investigation.

Maybe it's time for Trump to come clean; just testify about what really happened and clear up all this confusion and misdirection that he claims surrounds the case. He seemed pretty willing to do this in June:

========
President Trump said Friday he is "100 percent" willing to testify under oath about his interactions with James Comey in order to dispute the fired FBI director’s claims.

“One hundred percent,” Trump said when asked if he would give a sworn statement to Robert Mueller, the special counsel leading the investigation into Russia’s election interference.
========

But now it looks like he's having second thoughts. Perhaps he's realizing that people who commit crimes can actually go to jail, after seeing the arrests and guilty pleas of people in his administration. Trump today on whether he is willing to testify:

"We'll see what happens. Certainly I'll see what happens, but when they have no collusion and nobody's found any collusion, at any level, it seems unlikely you'd even have an interview.”

Trump's lawyer, Ty Cobb, is apparently also eager to "wrap things up". Yesterday he said that Trump is "very eager to explain to the special counsel ... whatever responses are required in connection with wrapping up this investigation."

Given that a new avenue in the investigation is opening up, doesn't look too likely.

FBI investigating whether Russian money went to NRA to help Trump

By Peter Stone And Greg Gordon

The FBI is investigating whether a top Russian banker with ties to the Kremlin illegally funneled money to the National Rifle Association to help Donald Trump win the presidency, two sources familiar with the matter have told McClatchy.

FBI counterintelligence investigators have focused on the activities of Alexander Torshin, the deputy governor of Russia’s central bank who is known for his close relationships with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and the NRA, the sources said.

It is illegal to use foreign money to influence federal elections.

It’s unclear how long the Torshin inquiry has been ongoing, but the news comes as Justice Department Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s sweeping investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 election, including whether the Kremlin colluded with Trump’s campaign, has been heating up.

. . . the NRA reported spending a record $55 million on the 2016 elections, including $30 million to support Trump – triple what the group devoted to backing Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential race. Most of that was money was spent by an arm of the NRA that is not required to disclose its donors.

Oh Ron, Ron, Ron. Of course it dosn't matter to set moral values and integrity aside if the DJIA is up.

Like a crack whore the republicans are going to borrow their way to re-election. Or try to.

"As of January 4, 2018, the official debt of the United States government is $20.5 trillion ($20,493,371,220,439)...

At the close of the federal government’s 2016 fiscal year (September 30, 2016), the federal government had roughly:

$8.5 trillion ($8,542,000,000,000) in liabilities that are not accounted for in the publicly held national debt, such as federal employee retirement benefits, accounts payable, and environmental/disposal liabilities.[12]

$29.0 trillion ($29,038,000,000,000) in obligations for current Social Security participants above and beyond projected revenues from their payroll and benefit taxes, certain transfers from the general fund of the U.S. Treasury, and assets of the Social Security trust fund.[13] [14]

$32.9 trillion ($32,900,000,000,000) in obligations for current Medicare participants above and beyond projected revenues from their payroll taxes, benefit taxes, premium payments, and assets of the Medicare trust fund.[15] [16]

Combining the figures above with the national debt and subtracting the value of federal assets, the federal government had about $84.3 trillion ($84,306,000,000,000) in debts, liabilities, and unfunded obligations at the close of its 2016 fiscal year.[23]

Did you by any chance listen to President Trump's speech in PA yesterday? The man knows how to speak to the American people. He resonates leadership on a business level. That is why he was elected. We want to get back to what works, not what sounds good.

Three more years to determine the final score. Relax and invest in America, the prospects look very favorable.

You really need to put some effort into researching Trump's business history.
That's not a good path for a nation to follow.

He has survived on debt and bad business decisions since daddy died. It took Russia to provide his the last few rounds of debt to save his ass because nobody else would lend him more.

And yet there were loads of things about Obama that really meant a lot to you that had nothing to do with the economy. Hell, most of them were imaginary and they still meant something to you.

You got the ‘stupid’ bit right though.

But you just praised him on sounding good (in your very strange opinion).

There’s absolutely no evidence that what Trump wants to do (if you could ever nail him down on what exactly that is) actually works.

I agree that he knows how to talk to his base. For his supporters and opponents I doubt anyone will be relaxing. The prospects look favorable with regards to current US stock market valuations. IMO his popularity will fall in step with the aforementioned valuations.

That is if Mueller doesn't get to him first.

No, your view has always been that I should accept your perspective at face value, entirely without discussion.

You're wrong on multiple topics Ron.
You just can't see through your own bias.

>Did you by any chance listen to President Trump's speech in PA yesterday? The

Latest polls -

"Would you say that Donald Trump has good leadership skills, or not?” 34% of Americans said yes, 63% said no (August, Quinnipac)

"Other nations’ approval of U.S. leadership under President Donald Trump hit a historical low of 30 percent in 2017, according to a Gallup poll released Thursday." (Politico)

CBS 53% disapprove, 37% approve
NPR/PBS 58% disapprove, 37% approve

Other poll questions -

53% of Americans say Trump's first year is a failure
61% believe he is doing more to divide than unite the country
48% score on dealing with ISIS

53% say he's a "poor President"
55% say country has been "mostly losing" under Trump

>We want to get back to what works, not what sounds good.

Yep. So give up on the billion dollar wall and go back to what the Border Patrol, law enforcement and the INS says works - a barrier made up of a combination of walls, patrolling, electronic surveillance and regular inspections.

But that's too politically incorrect. And a big, beautiful wall to keep out the scary outsiders just _sounds_ so good.

No, silly, that’s a rookie mistake. You can’t take any old American people and call them the American people.

The people voting no, they’re just those people. The real Americans, the people, they’re yes all the way.

And of course there is the worst crime of all - using the wrong email server. Compared to that, who cares if the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians during the election?
