I know Trump would have you believe differently, but there are more public servants who cast aside their political leanings than not.  Most take the oath seriously.

Not any bureaucrat that I have ever heard of.

 

Take for instance the supreme court justices.

They are there Because of their politics and liberalism/conservatism.

I'm working with several hundred at the moment. The vast majority are far more interested in doing their job properly than who is in power.

They are there Because of their politics and liberalism/conservatism.

Judges get voted in at the lower levels of the court, and work their way up the ladder.  Their leanings tend to show through their decisions throughout their career.  At the SC level, they're appointed by presidents, who are definitely partisan by nature.  So, I'd probably say this is a bad example.  I have lots of friends who work for the government.  Met a lot of people in my time in service.  They are committed to their job, not a political party.

I met a lot in my time in the service as well.

I also keep in mind, that was a different time - where partisanship wasn't ,quite as often, as nasty.

I also did a lot of municipal construction work - dealt with mayoral staff, gubernatorial staff, State University staff . . .

My experience is a lot different than yours.

Regardless...800?  And they're all career prosecutors.  Is there anything even close to something of this magnitude in the entire history of our country? 

We are indeed living in different times.  Integrity is lacking among our body politic.  I won't say on both sides, because that creates the illusion that it's 50/50, even split, and false equivalence.  I find the Republican party to be vastly more corrupt and ruthlessly screwing us worse than their counterparts.  To be clear, I don't think all the problems go away with a Democratic president either.  They all need their feet held to the flames.  Shit's real bad.

Of course it's politically motivated; they want to ensure that the people know that they think Trump (a politician) is a criminal.

But then, Trump's election was politically motivated too.  So was his soliciting the Russians to attack the US and promising a reward if they did.  So was his paying off porn stars to have sex with him and then not talk about it.  So are your posts on this forum attacking other politicians.  So is every election and governmental proceeding in this country. 

Heck, so was the trial against the Unabomber.  Bet you don't want to see that one overturned.

No, it was worse.  That's just looking through rose colored glasses.  Remember, there was a time when a sitting US vice president and a US treasury secretary smeared each other so viciously that they ended up shooting at each other, and the murder that resulted was dismissed by the state supreme court as not being worth prosecuting.

The political divide of the 60s around the war and the draft and the civil rights movement was at least as large as today's. The biggest difference is social media and communications. Actually most of today's issues can be traced back to then and even further in the past.

Trump and co. are scumbags, and if they ever go down I will immensely enjoy the show.  But having 800 formal prosecutors sign a letter is reminiscent of when a 1000 architects signed a letter stating that 9/11 had to be an inside job.  Useless showmanship

It doesn't matter.  Since Eric Holder did it and was ultimately let off the hook with no punishment, they can do it too. 

When these people proclaim their principles, they're not being honest.  It's that simple.  Their principles only go so far as is politically convenient.  The only principles left in Washington is whataboutism.
