Kushner wanted secure line with Kremlin before inauguration

Recommended Posts

Jared Kushner reportedly talked with a top Russian official in early December about establishing a private communications channel between President Trump's transition team and the Kremlin.

The president's son-in-law and senior adviser inquired about using Russian diplomatic facilities for the communications, apparently to shield the talks, U.S. officials briefed on intelligence reports told The Washington Post.

Russian ambassador to the U.S. Sergei Kislyak told his superiors that Kushner floated the idea during a meeting at Trump Tower on Dec. 1 or 2, according to the Post, which cited intercepts of Russian communications reviewed by U.S. officials.

i.e. Have Kushner and or trump go to the Russian embassy to have secure communications with RUSSIA-PUTIN using Russian secure lines.

Simply stunning.

Reuters was first to report last week that a proposal for a back channel was discussed between Flynn and Kislyak as Trump prepared to take office. The Washington Post was first to report on Friday that Kushner participated in that conversation.

Separately, there were at least 18 undisclosed calls and emails between Trump associates and Kremlin-linked people in the seven months before the Nov. 8 presidential election, including six calls with Kislyak, sources told Reuters earlier this month. . Two people familiar with those 18 contacts said Flynn and Kushner were among the Trump associates who spoke to the ambassador by telephone. Reuters previously reported only Flynn’s involvement in those discussions.

Six of the sources said there were multiple contacts between Kushner and Kislyak but declined to give details beyond the two phone calls between April and November and the post-election conversation about setting up a back channel. It is also not clear whether Kushner engaged with Kislyak on his own or with other Trump aides.

If that turns out to be true Kushner will be finished. Along with his security clearance. And possibly Trumps's last hope of having an effective term.

I don't think that's true. Republicans and Trump supporters simply don't care. Heck, a videotape of Kushner discussing what the Russians want in return for their support would be dismissed by RushMC (and other Trumpies) as "fake news" or "who cares?" or "Clinton did it first." And Trump would simply fire whoever was investigating it - and reporters who asked about it would be hit in the face.

Oh, I know they don't care. But he can't keep his security clearance if he did that, can he? That would be pretty messed up.

Why not? Trump can issue an executive order giving him the right to look at classified information, and fire anyone who opposes him. And even if that gets awkward, since Trump can apparently "declassify" anything he wants by leaking it, he can just leak anything relevant to Kushner.

>Would there not be a law against such a thing?

There are laws against assault, too. Doesn't mean much to this administration.

What if the DoJ through Mueller prosecutes him?

probably not a crime, just a massive indiscretion. No one in the GOP is going to object to ANYTHING that the Trump family does, not at least until they get the legislative things that they need done.

No one cares that the top elite in the white house are setting things up to enrich themselves and their friends by looting the country of all the wealth they can. No one actually cares and that is how far the ideology has gotten so fucked up in politics.

Starting to look like that which was the reason many voted for the village idiot to start with.

Former acting CIA director John McLaughlan on Friday responded to reports that President Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner discussed setting up a secret communications line between Trump's transition team and the Kremlin, saying if such reports are true, it would be considered espionage.

The whole thing is more than a little fishy. Apparently the info comes from the Russians? How the hell does anyone know what Kislyak reported to his superiors? And if anyone does, how the hell does this capability to know something like that get to a newspaper?

This looks like more than a mere leak. This is an attempt to use very classified info to take down Kushner. It maybe justified, but this is serious stuff.

Ignorance, chaos, hubris.

Whoever could have predicted that might happen when you appoint a real estate developer as effectively the nation's top diplomat and give him carte blanche to operate outside any normal state department procedures?

Who could have known that those much maligned 'beltway insiders' are actually skilled professionals who know what they're doing and how to do it properly?

I had no idea :|

Could be worse.
