Sheriff Joe Arpaio GUILTY

That the Deplorables have a new champion. Nazis, white supremacists, racists, anti-immigrant types, even Russian agents and spies - are all welcome in the New America. Even Stormfront, David Duke and Richard Spencer are thanking him for his support now.

Come to think of it we should probably get around to updating that loser poem at the base of the Statue of Liberty to better reflect the New America.

"Keep, foreign lands, your peoples!" cries she
With silent lips. "But give me your whites, your bigots, your spies,
Your wealthy gentry yearning to oppress,
all those who hate the wretched masses of our teeming shores.
Send these, thy followers of fascism and division,
I lift my lamp beside Trump's golden throne!"

Trump floats the idea of a possible pardon. And the message in this is...........?

The message is that, once again, Trump doesn't understand what he can and cannot do, and/or doesn't understand the words he uses. Arpaio would have to apply for the pardon at least 5 years after being released after serving his time.

Thus my comment about him not understanding the words that he uses.

Pay no attention to what he says. You have to listen to what he means. As scary as that is.

Why is that? As far as I was aware the power of the President to pardon offenders at any time after the offence took place (even before they are indicted, let alone tried, convicted and time served) was absolute.

Nixon was blanket-pardoned by Ford prior to any formal charges being filed.

Judges across the country should be livid.

Between this, North Korea launching multiples today, the hurricane being largely ignored, and Gorka's departure.......and dumb ass Trump takes off for the weekend.
AGAIN.

Never have I seen this level of insanity in our gooberment.
We're fucked.

Well, I'm reading that all 3 missiles failed, and with Gorka out, we are down to just one Nazi in the WH, so that doesn't seem so bad.:|

With more careful reading, it seems that the 5 year wait is only if the criminal is going to apply for a pardon. The president can go ahead on his own.
That's just the rules for a formal petition through the DoJ. Alternatively they could just write to Donald on Twitter whenever they wanted.

That Trump condones ignoring the rule of law if it aligns with his agenda.
Trump condones racism if it aligns with his (racist,) agenda.
The message to his supporters is to keep the faith.
To everybody else, fuck you, you're not a 'real' American anyway.
That's my take on it.
But what do I know?

That's pretty much the end result of pardons/commutations, right?

Hundreds are given throughout every presidency, (some more than others) and everyone always finds a few to bitch about.

By far most are given for compassionate reasons; a person so old they'd otherwise die in jail for some goofy minor crime where sentencing went awry. Stuff like that.

Hell, even GWB didn't pardon Scooter Libby, he simply commuted it after awhile. So Libby is still a convicted felon.

No. This IS different. The crime here was disobeying a court order. It was for six months. Trump blatantly pardoned as a political favor and as a sign to his "team" they don't have to cooperate in the FBI Russia probe because if they get tossed in jail, he'll pardon them too.

***trump is just setting the bar low so that when the pardons are issued for Ivanka, Don Jr., etc.

Nobody will get too upset!

This has been speculation for quite awhile.

It may hurt them quite a bit to accept the pardon. I know you know this, but accepting the pardon is an admission of guilt and can be used in civil court.

I heard that exact point on a radio interview with a legal expert yesterday.
