I'm still curious why the murderer was tossed out of the Army.

Rather vague explanation from the Army: http://www.ledger-enquirer.com/news/local/military/article167096872.html

It would be interesting to hear from some of his training peers.

The great people at the Southern Poverty Law Center do a pretty good job of enunciating the differences:

https://www.splcenter.org/news/2016/07/19/black-lives-matter-not-hate-group

DirtyChai

*** BLM

While I'm no fan of the BLM for some of the same reasons you've listed, I'm finding it hard to lump them in with The New Black Panthers, The Nation of Islam, The Israelite Church of God in Jesus Christ, Israel United In Christ, and other black separatist hate groups (that for some reason or another seem to have a preoccupation with hijacking various religions - what's up with that?)

I'm not so sure I'd even call them racist as much as I would the poster child for misguided anger.

winsor

I am not disputing the fact that blacks have been killed for being black. Nevertheless, an awful lot of police shootings of blacks would have followed the same script if the subject was Vietnamese, Australian, Arapaho or Norwegian.

And they have. In 2016 465 white people have been killed by police, 148 were mentally ill and 22 were unarmed. 5 of those unarmed were also mentally ill.

233 black people have been killed by police in 2016, 34 were mentally ill and 17 were unarmed. 2 of those unarmed were also mentally ill.

Granted, blacks are still killed by police at a higher rate than whites, but if you are going to take population into consideration, you also have to consider the higher population of police in larger cities where you're more likely to be killed regardless of your race, by police or otherwise - cities where the majority of black people reside.

winsor

I have been in the sights of trigger happy cops (sleeping on the wing of my airplane, for example), and would likely have been shot repeatedly if I had not played 'Simon Says' effectively, and I'm pretty sure I'm not black.

Same here. I've had 15 year-old white friends beaten by police because they were thought to be in a gang - the police were trying to get info. Another was handcuffed to a gurney and choked nearly to death for mouthing off to a cop. Another was handcuffed, beaten and maced repeatedly. Another one was on a bad mushroom trip and fighting 5 cops that surrounded him. (Long story, but we're thankful we can look back and laugh at it)

But this was a long time ago, about 20 years ago. We didn't worry about cops killing unarmed suspects. It's a relatively new "phenomenon." I doubt my white friends would've fared as well today. There may have only been 4 or 5 unarmed people killed back then compared to 20 or more starting around 2014 and increasing to almost 50 in 2016.

Billvon made a good point earlier. We just shrug it off as tragic, but understandable.

This is where I think BLM is beneficial to society. They may only focus on black lives, but they're bringing attention to the issue. They don't just shrug it off.

There has been a steady increase in police homicides since 2000 regardless of race. This leads me to believe that there has either been a change in policy or a change in the mindset of cops.

Perhaps young X'ers and old millenials just aren't up to the task of being good cops. Maybe they're just too soft, too afraid, or not trained correctly.

My dad is old school. He's been known to take a punch or two and then subduing some punk kid instead of just shooting him. Those are the types of cops we need.

I just wish we could all come together and find solutions to the problem, rather than exploiting racism to gain an edge in the "us vs them" game that it is.

Here are some solutions that might help.

For starters. If you're a pussy, don't become a cop.

Here are the others:

4 months tells me he was set back and had to re-try to qualify somehow.

Per the article:
Some of the reasons the Army could have released Fields are failure to qualify with his weapon, failure to pass the Army Physical Fitness Test, or he could have been unsuitable for military service.

In my boot camp, we started with 84, only lost 4 along the way.
One went over the hill (graduation weekend no less!), one tried to force someone to do oral on him, one was too fat to qualify physically, and one tried to shoot the drill instructor on the gun range.

As an American with heritage that represents German immigration, Civil War participation (CPT in the Union Army), WW1, the Great Depression, WW2, and Korea along with my involvement in the Vietnam War and the Counter Culture it is rather obvious there is some agreement.

>As an American with heritage that represents German immigration . . . .

There were Trump types around when you and yours came over, too. From an article from a long time ago:
============================
Those [Germans] who come hither are generally of the most ignorant Stupid Sort of their own Nation…and as few of the English understand the German Language, and so cannot address them either from the Press or Pulpit, ’tis almost impossible to remove any prejudices they once entertain…Not being used to Liberty, they know not how to make a modest use of it…I remember when they modestly declined intermeddling in our Elections, but now they come in droves, and carry all before them, except in one or two Counties...In short unless the stream of their importation could be turned from this to other colonies, as you very judiciously propose, they will soon so out number us, that all the advantages we have will not in My Opinion be able to preserve our language, and even our Government will become precarious.

Why should the Palatine Boors be suffered to swarm into our Settlements and, by herding together, establish their Language and Manners, to the Exclusion of ours? Why should Pennsylvania, founded by the English, become a Colony of Aliens, who will shortly be so numerous as to Germanize us instead of our Anglifying them, and will never adopt our Language or Customs any more than they can acquire our Complexion?

Which leads me to add one Remark, that the Number of purely white People in the World is proportionably very small. All Africa is black or tawny; Asia chiefly tawny; America (exclusive of the new Comers) wholly so. And in Europe, the Spaniards, Italians, French, Russians, and Swedes, are generally of what we call a swarthy Complexion; as are the Germans also, the Saxons only excepted, who, with the English, make the principal Body of White People on the Face of the Earth. I could wish their Numbers were increased. And while we are, as I may call it, Scouring our Planet, by clearing America of Woods, and so making this Side of our Globe reflect a brighter Light to the Eyes of Inhabitants in Mars or Venus, why should we, in the Sight of Superior Beings, darken its People? Why increase the Sons of Africa, by planting them in America, where we have so fair an Opportunity, by excluding all Blacks and Tawneys, of increasing the lovely White and Red? But perhaps I am partial to the Complexion of my Country, for such Kind of Partiality is natural to Mankind.
===========================

Isn't it fortunate that people like you were not in charge when people like you came to America?

You consider Antifa (anti-fascists) to be a hate group? You feel fascists have been treated too harshly? Interesting.

Personally I support the groups in the US who stand up to fascism. It's one of the things that makes us better as a country.

The idea of Anti-Facists is sound, the groups of 20-something-year olds who run around smashing store windows and punching people is not.

Vice magazine was there with a reporter and a camera guy.
They got a lot of face time with people on both sides.

Rather amusing to hear one of the Nazi's ranting about the Jew (Kushner) in the Whitehouse.
And incredible hearing a Nazi explaining how the driver of the car was justified because it was self-defense.:S

You may not be a member, it is pretty clear from your posting that you tend to agree with their positions.

Ron doesn't agree with all your opinions over on the left, therefore he's a Nazi.

OK, gotcha!

Yes, that's exactly why.... /s

Bill maybe I got it wrong...are they not responsible for breaking windows of private property, burning cars, beating people in the streets, throwing rocks at police, trashing Berkley and setting a generator on fire? Or was that the communist party?

A bit of bad news _and_ good news:

A black 20 year old (Deandre Harris) was beaten with poles by several white supremacists at the rally. He ended up with a broken wrist, broken teeth and 20 staples in his head - but is going to be OK, mainly because some passerbys saw the fight, stepped in to stop it, and called an ambulance. The white supremacists got away.

Fortunately someone took a picture of the beating and crowdsourced identification of the attackers. One has been identified as Daniel Borden. Another potential ID is Kristoffer Odinsson. Neither has been arrested yet.

Picture of Borden and the victim attached.

Then you should readily identify with this deflection of point and substance.

I think they should still hold it; let the world see what these people are all about.

We use 'free speech zones' - fenced in, heavily guarded pens - for protesters at political conventions. Texas should consider something similar for white nationalist rallies.

An excellent approach is what the interviewer did at the end of that Vox video:
Put a camera and mic in front of these cretins and let them talk.

There was an entire documentary that did just that: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101479/

The interviewers sat off camera and asked just enough non-confrontational questions to keep them talking.
And the more they talked, the deeper they dug the hole.

While I am a huge advocate for freedom of speech, no matter how offensive or reprehensible (and this is about as bad as it gets), I don't have an issue with Tx A&M refusing.

It's a college campus.

And (from the article):

Quote

In canceling Spencer’s appearance next month, the university noted it had changed its policy regarding guest speakers in response to the white supremacist’s previous appearance, and now mandates that speakers be sponsored by a student organization to use campus facilities. “None of the 1200-plus campus organization invited Preston Wiginton nor did they agree to sponsor his events in December 2016 or on September 11 of this year,” Texas A&M said in a statement Monday.

Very clear policy, applied (hopefully) fairly and evenly to all who wish to speak.

If he can't get any student group to sponsor his hatred, then he should not speak there.

Also:

Quote

The planned site for Wiginton's rally [was] a fountain named after famous Aggie Gen. James Earl Rudder, who led a group of Army Rangers up 100-foot cliffs to topple Nazi gun barracks during the D-Day invasion

I have to wonder what all the veterans who fought and died to stop the Nazis would think about all this. Common meme popping up on FB over the weekend.

I think the college has every right to refuse to host them. I just also think that letting such people speak is good for democracy as a whole. Even if you need "free speech areas" to protect the public from them.

Or protect them and their speech from the public.

We've had a bit of a kerfuffle with the KKK wanting to speak in Madison, on the steps of the Capitol building.

Court fights and parade permits and porta-pottie requirements and who pays for the cops and the fences and all that stuff.

In the end, they got to speak (which I fully agree is their right).

But the "anti" crowd outnumbered them 2 or 3 to 1. The ended up basically having a very small crowd at the base of the steps, inside a portable chain link fence, surrounded by cops (IIRC, the KKK had to pay for the fence and the cops).

With a decent sized crowd protesting them.

I don't know when your article was written or to whom. However. my ancestors, with some Irish mixed in there as well, came to America legally. They met the requirements to be called Americans. Later they fought against the Germans, both world wars, as well as the Japanese.

Your point makes no sense to me and your personality appears to remain consistent.
