Trump and his minions have been hammering on journalists. Calling the 'Mainstream Media' "Fake News", when what it does is criticize him.

So, of course, some of his followers latch onto it.
Some of those followers are in positions of certain power.

Well, there's no mention of Trump specifically, but considering the guy is demonizing Democrats, I'd bet pretty heavily he's a Trumpette.

County supervisor (board member) in Sevier County TN took the podium and said some stuff that was a bit 'deplorable'.

Maybe it’s because it was CNN reporting their own settlement, and describing the whole scene? They also reported, once it became known, what had been missing from earlier stories, giving Mr Sandmann’s actions a fair look overall.

”Deplorables” won’t consider that they might be wrong, and never change the narrative.
