airdvr 210 #27 August 30, 2017 billvon>You're correct. Absolutely hate hypocrites. Are you admitting you are wrong? Or just trying to change the topic? What part of "none on here have called out the Mayor of Houston." ? Seems to me to be a lot of hypocrites on here who went ballistic over the handling of Katrina but are mute towards Harvey. Let me spell it out more clearly...Sylvester Turner was wrong when he chose not to evacuate Houston. Most of the vocal on here gave Mr. Turner a pass because he's a Democrat. billvon 2,995 #29 August 30, 2017 >What part of "none on here have called out the Mayor of Houston." ? What part means what? That was a true statement. He made a reasonable call. The governor backed him up. So far it looks like it was the right one. That may change, of course. > Seems to me to be a lot of hypocrites on here who went ballistic over the handling of > Katrina but are mute towards Harvey. That's like saying "geez, people went ballistic over Saddam Hussein but were perfectly fine with Vincente Fox." And that''s true - because they are not equivalent, even if you really need them to be because you hate Fox. For the most part, the handling of Harvey has been pretty good. For the most part, the handling of Katrina was a clusterfuck. And if you can't accept that - if you really need to blame someone with a (D) after their name - I am sure you can figure out a way to do that.
DirtyChai 0 #30 August 30, 2017 airdvr***It would seem that facts get in the way of racial hatred. Why are you always the first one to play the race card? Before I address the race card issue, just let me say that personally, I don't know the history behind the hurricane politics you seem to be referring to, so I'm not really feeling your gripe, nor did I initially understand the whole hating black people thing, but then again, I'm not a Kanye fan. In general, it's just not practical for an entire city like this to completely evacuate. I really don't know how I'd react until I'm in a situation like that, but I'd like to think that if I'm in charge of a city and my people are still there along with multiple rescue crews, as the captain, I'm gonna stay behind and go down with the ship so to speak, right? Anyway, the race card. It's just the easiest way to shut people up if you disagree with them. In the other thread, he tried making me look like some wannabe scientist that denied "real scientists." Which wasn't the case at all, but he didn't even care to find out. He was essentially just trying to make me feel stupid so that I'd just shut up and go away. It's a common 140 character or less twitter tactic to bully someone out of the conversation without having to provide any argument of your own. Granted, some people deserve to be called stupid, or racist. But unfortunately, people like the poster in question are just turning it into a bit of a cliche. . . normiss 801 #33 August 30, 2017 I'm pretty sure you named this thread, not me. I call out racism when I see it, even face to face with people in public, because I refuse to tolerate it. If it isn't called out for what it is, then people accept it. I won't. It seems a number of people not only accept it, they embrace it. Even starting threads here clearly showing their hatred. Just like the title of this thread.

You need to recheck the title of this thread. The story of Harvey is yet to be told. There will be months and years of recovery. Katrina was a recent lesson and a different situation. For which the army corps of engineers received blame. http://content.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1941102,00.html Harvey will be a costly event for all Americans. wmw999 2,451 #38 August 30, 2017 Here is an excellent piece by someone who (ahem) lives in Houston. He might have more insight than Rush or Savage or whoever. You could address the points, or just keep reiterating your talking point (which is so simplistic that it hurts my eyes). Wendy P.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. My cousins are in houston and have evacuated several times to different houses in different areas. I think so far they have been lucky and only one of them actually has water in the house.
