mnealtx 0 #101 September 3, 2008 Shannon was laid to rest yesterday at the cemetery in Ft. Sam Houston. With her love of horses, we checked to see if her casket could be brought in on a caisson - unfortunately, that is only for military. As her casket was brought into the burial shelter, I looked up and what did I see but a caisson and escort bringing another soldier home - so, in a sense, she DID get her horses. On the last day of school, Shannon would wear an old, worn-out pair of jeans and a plain t-shirt and have all the kids sign them. We did the same thing with her casket - a plain, pewter-silver design. It was COVERED with notes to Shannon from her friends and classmates saying goodbye. Sitting in the front row of the chapel, I could see the peace on the faces of her friends as they would finish. The line of cars in the procession to the cemetery was over a half-mile long - not too bad for a little-city country girl!Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. GeorgiaDon 362 #120 August 27, 2009 I'm thinking of you guys too, although you don't know me. I guess our little skydiver community is like that. I like the sentiment of the poem "I'm not there" ny Mary Elizabeth Frye. Maybe it'll help some, I hope so. Don Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep. I am in a thousand winds that blow, I am the softly falling snow. I am the gentle showers of rain, I am the fields of ripening grain. I am in the morning hush, I am in the graceful rush Of beautiful birds in circling flight, I am the starshine of the night. I am in the flowers that bloom, I am in a quiet room. I am in the birds that sing, I am in each lovely thing. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there. I do not die._____________________________________ Tolerance is the cost we must pay for our adventure in liberty.
