Jake Schwan AKA Late Jake died Oct 4 2012 in Oak Park Co. He was 89.
Jake was a member of The Greatest Generation. A Marine who served in the Pacific during World War II.
He started jumping late in life at 51 though his nickname came from his skill as a late diver, not his late start in skydiving.
He was also an accomplished stone mason and poet.

BSBD Jake.
Met him at Lost Prairie several years ago and jumped with him. He accidently dumped Chris Q out of a 4way reaching for his leg grip.

Main goals in life: Be on the "Jumpers Over Eighty" (JOE) World Record and attend the Lost Prairie Boogie once after I'm gone.

He won a jump with Airspeed once and did pretty well.

I jumped with him a lot at Eloy. What a character.

He did sit ups between jumps and was a bricklayer in his 70's. He was in great shape, except for his eyesight!

I was there when Jake started jumping. He came to Longmont Altimate High (NOT Mile Hi!) with his then-19-year-old-son. His son wanted to make a jump and Jake came along to make sure he knew what his kid was getting into.

His kid made one jump and that was the end of his jump career. Jake kept going... and going... and going.

I made many jumps with Jake over the years and stayed several times at his Oak Creek "mansion."* As others have said, he was quite a character, and a good jumper even when he was getting on in years. Moreover, he was not only an accomplished stonemason and poet; he was an accomplished human being.
