mark_l 0 #1 March 10, 2018 Am considering the switch from analog to digital altimeters. Anyone out there using the new LB Ares II? How does it compare to the Viso 2+?
sundevil777 102 #2 March 10, 2018 At that price, I'd prefer the neptune for what I think is a more readable display. For 1/4 the price you could find a used Neptune II and armored case. There is something about the Viso/Ares that just isn't as quickly readable to me.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
djmarvin 2 #3 March 11, 2018 I love my Ares II. The screen is significantly larger than the Viso or Ares I. The metal body and glass screen put up with extreme abuse. Otherwise it functions very similar to the Viso II. DJ Marvin AFF I/E, Coach/E, USPA/UPT Tandem I/E http://www.theratingscenter.com
cleartoland 1 #4 March 26, 2018 I got one too and so far really like it. I made a short quick video if you want to see the hardware, at https://youtu.be/FOAA37bgdlw
benlangfeld 1 #5 July 10, 2018 Does anyone have a photo of one next to a Viso II+ (switched on) to compare the size of the figures on the display?
benlangfeld 1 #7 July 11, 2018 Thank you! The Ares is quite a bit larger and clearer. I think I might trade in my Viso.

benlangfeld 1 #9 July 12, 2018 Figuratively. I just meant sell mine and buy an Ares. Nothing official that I know of.

I upgraded from an Alti-2 Galaxy to an Ares II a few weeks ago, after evaluating both the Ares II and the Viso+. The Ares II has a larger screen and a low profile. The Viso's screen is fine but I felt that the Ares II had overall better construction and it works better for my use case -- I abuse gear and needed something with the flattest possible profile. As far as the internals and firmware, both appear to use the Bosch barometric sensor and have similar capabilities. Have the Ares II for about 50 jumps now. I went from analog to digital with it. Great altimeter and being 'the new kid on the block', it gets a quite bit of attention on the ride up to jump altitude. The positive comments I gotten so far are typically about the clarity and viewing angle of its LCD. It is (obviously) heavier that the Viso but I doubt one will notice it. I wear it on my forearm rather than around my wrist (like how I did with my analog).
