AtrusBatleth 0 #1 August 23, 2018 I'm considering a new helmet, something open face and impact rated. When I was a student I hated how the goggle straps were restricted by the helmet chin strap when I would pull the goggles off under canopy (pulled them down to my chin). That's why I bought a full face after AFF. Now that I'm thinking of going back to open face I'm wondering if there are other options for dealing with the goggles. The Tonfly ICE looked appealing with the goggle strap retainer outside the helmet, but they told me that was more for skiing and that skydive goggles would still have to be worn inside the helmet. Do any of you open face jumpers have any success pulling your goggles off and up on top of your helmet? Are there other solutions I have not considered? Keeping the goggles on under canopy is not an option for me (just a very strong preference).Max Peck What's the point of having top secret code names, fellas, if we ain't gonna use 'em? councilman24 37 #2 August 24, 2018 There is only one or two impact rated helmets suitable for skydiving. We've never cared.A Protec is better than the carbon fiber stuff because it has some give and won't break into knife edge pieces. Some Protecs have a snaps along the top of the forhead. Kroop goggles are easily pulled forward and hooked on the snap. For those without a snap I put a pop rivet in the middle above the forehead and snap the goggles on that. Been doing it for 37 years. Still haven't found anything I like better. For better padding there is a pad set available from https://www.oregonaero.com/helmet-upgrades/pro-tec-helmet-upgrade-kit. I usually put matching color duct tape over the ear openings to make it a little quieter. I make small spandex pouches that velcro around the ear pad to hold audibles. I'm not kewl but it works for me. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE

Westerly 61 #4 August 24, 2018 The ProTec comes in an impact rated version. It's like $50.

I'm aware of the impact rated options out there, I was more looking for recommendations on the goggles. I didn't realize some jumpers were just using ordinary sunglasses. Maybe I've been making this overly complicated. Max Peck What's the point of having top secret code names, fellas, if we ain't gonna use 'em?

I have some green Kroops that were only used on a few jumps I'd sell you for $6 + 4 shipping if you want them.
