Brett Kavanaugh, how to get a SC Nomination

Recommended Posts

******The first and last part I stated is somewhat excusable as a young scared girl did not want to go to the police, what’s stopping her now?

The statute of limitations? What would be the point?

I wonder when Marc gets back from vacation because i don't subscribe to Fox news. I'm sure Fox has the trump cult talking points for Thursday, today. Ron?

I do not follow Fox News or any of the MSM.

This should launch an investigation that should dwarf simply looking into Kavanaugh's background. More witnesses need to come forward. With something like this they're out there.

So what happens if the Republicans can force through his confirmation and then this thing does explode into a large scale scandal.

Is there an impeachment process for SC justices? Or was it simply assumed that no-one would be stupid enough to nominate a judge who needed impeaching:P

Do you want to have an ideagasm?

Like any other impeachment, the House does it, then it goes to the Senate for confirmation.

This member of SCOTUS was impeached, but acquitted by the Senate: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samuel_Chase

Same as if he engaged in gang rape after being sworn in. There's an investigation and determination of criminal wrongdoing and if found guilty and that act disqualifies the person from the requirements of serving the office then they are removed.

Basically, the vote can continue and if Kavanaugh is found guilty in 2019 or 2020 or 2021..... Republicans should seriously think about that.

Kavanaugh’s chances died this morning. Bring on the next right wing idealogue.

Tiffany is currently a Georgetown Law student.
Maybe he will nominate her.:D

>Brett Kavanaugh and pals accused of gang rapes in high school, says lawyer Michael Avenatti

While I would consider believing a victim who testified herself to such an assault, I trust Avenatti about as much as I trust Sean Hannity. He's an entertainer, not a reliable spokesperson.

He is currently providing excellent entertainment!:D

I don't think so. I think the GOP is going to ram him through.

McConnell will keep trying for now. But in the end he won’t have the votes, so either the nominee will withdraw, or he will be withdrawn. There will not be a vote on the floor.

Of course that’s only my best guess.

Looks like there's at least 1 more accusation. Politico is reporting a 4th and CNN is reporting 2 more anonymous accusations

The one Politico is reporting apparently originated with NBC: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/supreme-court/senate-probing-new-allegation-misconduct-against-kavanaugh-n913581

And this was from 1998, so we are no longer talking about high school or college years.

And a new one from 1985 on a boat: https://www.rawstory.com/2018/09/senate-investigating-fifth-brett-kavanaugh-accuser-says-raped-boat-rhode-island/

I think a deciding vote on Gamble v. United States is too important for the GOP and Trump in particular. They will do anything to push this through.

Thanks. I had read the already-scheduled cases last week, figuring that one of those was driving the schedule, but didn't see any that critical.

That's only six at most. He has a ways to go before he gets into Trump's league.

We now have one recanted (the boat story) and there are two people who stepped forward who say they are the ones who Ford is referring to.

The boat story is recanted?

First off, that's going to give a lot of weight to the 'they are just making this stuff up' crowd.

Second, the story included friends of the victim going to the boat and inflicting 'serious injuries' on the rapists. It would have been interesting to see if Kavanaugh had any ER visits or emergency dental work at that time, had the story been true.

After hearing her morning testimony, I’m guessing he will not even show up at the hearing. If he has any brains at all he will apologize and claim that he couldn’t remember because he was drunk. At this rate he’ll be lucky to hold onto his current seat.

One potentially good outcome of this is that other judges with similar backgrounds may see what Kavanaugh went through and have no desire to go through that themselves. (I would say "and perhaps Trump won't nominate such people" but we all know he's not going to change a thing.)

Poll shows white evangelicals are despicable human beings, or at least half of them are.

They aren't alone though. Not surprisingly, the President of The United States displayed what an incredibly despicable person he is himself.

Oh! Lord! did you miss the boat on this line of thinking.

Judges used to be lawyers. Never forget that concept. They arise from the same class of ambulance chasing, billing for work never done,...

At the height of a political corruption trial, the prosecuting attorney attacked a witness. "Isn't it true," he bellowed, "that you accepted five thousand dollars to compromise this case?"
The witness stared out the window as though he hadn't hear the question.

"Isn't it true that you accepted five thousand dollars to compromise this case?" the lawyer repeated.
The witness still did not respond.

Finally, the judge leaned over and said, "Sir, please answer the question."
"Oh," the startled witness said, "I thought he was talking to you."
