Trump's policy on 'detaining' children

On the plus side, Melania Trump visited a detention center today.

Oh well; I take that back. She is as bad as Trump.

Can anyone seriously imagine Michelle Obama wearing such a thing on such an occasion? I can not wait to read the justifications for such a tone deaf, selfish, and for our nation, embarrassing act.

Bit by bit these idiots are robbing us of our national pride. It's sickening.

Michelle Obama got crucified (figuratively speaking) for going sleeveless.

Melaina Trump is going to get a pass for wearing an "I Really Don't Care, Do U?" jacket. Her spokes-creature has already chastised the media for focusing on what she was wearing, not what she was doing.

I actually do think that she means well but is too naive for all of this. HOWEVER, she's not some lady out for a stroll, she has her own staff members and I can't imagine how she walked 10 feet without someone saying, "Melania, are you sure that's the message you're trying to send?" She's a damned fashion model, she knows that her clothing is a message.

And for wearing sneakers.

"but how do you champion yourself as a common person's political party and then wear $540 high-fashion, French-designed shoes to feed the homeless? Just another daily nugget of hypocrisy."

From FOX:

Michelle Obama Wears $540 Designer Sneakers to Feed the Poor
Published May 01, 2009
Fox News

It's a first lady faux pas -- wearing expensive, high-fashion French designer sneakers to a food bank.

Michelle Obama wore the sneakers, made by Lanvin, while helping feed the poor at a Washington food bank on Wednesday. The pricetag on the footwear? A cool $540.

Keds, they're not.

The sneakers, which come in denim and satin, are a favorite of comic Ellen DeGeneres and rapper Kanye West -- and they're "certainly not a reflection of the poor economy," said FOX News' Noelle Watters
========

But asking about a first lady wearing an "I really don't care, do u?" jacket to an event where she was ostensibly trying to prove she cared about children separated from their parents and detained? That's inappropriate! Evil liberal media!

Less than a week after Trump read the phrase "seperate but equal" off a teleprompter, with a straight face? Come on.

They know, they just don't give a fuck.

I wonder if she wasn't trolled by someone on her staff, perhaps at the behest of her husband or one of his underlings. It's not difficult for me to imagine her being given the jacket to put on without ever seeing the back. She's married to a misogynist; would you not expect him to sabotage any message she has that isn't in lock step with his?

FLOTUS is definitely out of touch with typical Americans. But I'm not sure that she is missing her moral compass entirely like her husband repeated demonstrates himself to be.

ETA: I'm also not entirely convinced she has said compass.

You have to wonder. If it was her just acting out it was still a tacky, dumbass way to do it.

Also, she's a clothes horse and that was a simple $39 jacket that really wasn't matching attire. Occam's razor?

I very much doubt that. One thing she certainly knows is clothing; she was a fashion model.

You could be right, of course. You probably are right. But it's her history as a fashion model that makes me believe it's possible someone held up the coat, said, "Here, try this, Ma'am," never allowing her to see the back of the jacket. She sees a cheap pseudo-field jacket that might help her come across as less out of touch. It would be just one more thing she had been told to wear.

It just seems so out of character for her. She's typically much classier than that.

Not only that, but she was granted an "Einstein" Visa to get into the US.

Notably after likely being in the US illegally. Trump was supposed to hold a press conference and clear this all up "in two weeks" about 6 months ago.

And yet another thing that "We All Know" goes down the tubes

A little girl who became the public face of US migrant family separations was not taken away from her mother at the US border, says her father.

That is really unfortunate. The right will use that news as an indicator that nothing bad is happening at the border and it is all overblown.

It would be a lot better all around if they could maybe slow down a little and be sure to get things right, instead of just first.

Often that's true. But when dozens of kids a day are being separated from their families, with the very real risk of them "getting lost in the system," you can't just wait a few days or weeks to "get everything right." In those situations speed is critical, and a rapid release of 95% accurate of the information is better than a slow release of 99% accurate information.

Now that Trump sent out the EO we have a few weeks to "get it right." I have no doubt the government will fail at that, but at least the urgency is reduced - for now.

And if their employers were paid for being right, rather than for being clicked on, it'd be a much higher priority. As it is, the reporters I know (including a retired editor and a current editor) truly value truthfulness; one limits his job because the owner values it as well.

But online and in live media, they're paid for being first, and/or most shocking (click bait). So while truth is a goal, they're not paid for it. And some people (particularly the ones who mainly copy and paste others' news) really don't care as much about the story as they do about making their (liberal or conservative) customers comfortably smug in their beliefs. Because that gets more clicks.
