BIGUN 1,317 #51 February 26, 2018 QuoteI understand both sides here. Perhaps there should be a tier of training that allows in-home and range possession, but outside the home/range the weapon must be locked in a case. A second tier could provide much more advanced training that more appropriately prepares people for public carry. I can agree with that. It may be three tiers though, 1) training & Storage, 2) Training and transportation, and 3) training & Carry (did you mean concealed or constitutional?)Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard. tkhayes 348 #54 February 26, 2018 this is all good stuff in this thread - all such good stuff that I will use it almost verbatim for my campaign. We need to make changes and they need to be sweeping. LEO needs to be involved whether the ATF holds the databases or the FBI - whatever. the information is there, it needs to be collected and there needs to be fees attached to it pay for the costs of implementation. BIGUN 1,317 #55 February 26, 2018 Thank you, TK. I agree this has been a good thread. I am glad that everyone is postulating ideas - and even though we may not agree with all of them - there's enough of a collaborative effort for everyone to use this as a template for their representatives. Thank you, all. Blue Skies. K.Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
TriGirl 319 #56 February 27, 2018 All, I know I'm a day late, hope I'm not a dollar short. A couple of things came to mind as I read this thread: 1 -- QuoteI really think a two day course will teach most people what they really need to know. You could certainly require additional training if they wanted to open or concealed carry. I liken training to the same example earlier relating to driver licensing. A car used irresponsibly can kill someone unintentionally. It can also kill intentionally. Same with a firearm. 2 -- Some of the proposed training for close quarters makes me pause. I think of the criminal mind taking the training to get the weapon, then learning better how to take down a house in the dark with minimal communication. I'm opposed to making criminals better at this. OTOH, responsible handling, responsible storage, cleaning/maintenance, operation instruction -- I can get on board with that. And it has to be re-tested every XX years, just like a driving test (may even be written, like the periodic driving test). Hope those suggestions are on topic enough! tkhayes 348 #57 March 1, 2018 my proposals as a candidate - much stolen and borrowed from here, and thanks for the input, although I have had similar positions for a very long time already https://tkforflorida.com/gun-debate-common-sense/

Bob_Church 7 #62 March 2, 2018 Unfortunately I think every line in your proposal is a moot point until other issues are dealt with. But it's well though out.
Phil1111 1,149 #63 March 2, 2018 Bob_ChurchUnfortunately I think every line in your proposal is a moot point until other issues are dealt with. But it's well though out. I agree but for the NRA and the hard core of gun rights supporters. Every single concession will be a hard fought battle. As political battles are apt to be. trump is reported to have met with NRA leadership last night. So his position today will likely be to support gun rights today. Or at least until some other distraction is needed. You could likely have an intelligent conversation with the (R) Brian Mast. He supports a assault weapons ban. But two days ago Florida voted such a ban down. I'm not saying that a comprehensive solution needs a ban. Well thought out proposals need off camera, bi-partisan committee consideration and debate. Because radicals on both sides will stonewall. Both sides will pander.

These are good ideas but won't help until and unless the number of guns already out there and the millions more being produced annually is dealt with. Then these things could help keep things sane.
