Honesty in the age of Trump

Probably had his inherent integrity reinforced by the Marines. Too bad that the diplomatic service is being gutted by the trump administration. Nothing that 1-2 decades can't repair.

Top U.S. Diplomat Blasts Trump Administration for ‘Decapitation’ of State Department Leadership
Two former ambassadors have rebuked the White House in an increasingly vocal backlash against its efforts to sideline the State Department.

“Our leadership ranks are being depleted at a dizzying speed,” Barbara Stephenson, a former U.S. ambassador to Panama and current president of the American Foreign Service Association, the union for foreign service officers, wrote in a letter for the December 2017 issue of the Foreign Service Journal.

Scores of senior diplomats, including 60 percent of career ambassadors, have left the department since the beginning of the year, when President Donald Trump took office, according to the letter. There are 74 top posts at State that remain vacant with no announced nominee.

“Were the U.S. military to face such a decapitation of its leadership ranks, I would expect a public outcry,” Stephenson wrote.

It’s not just top leadership that is fleeing. New recruitment is falling dramatically as well, shrinking the pool for future talent. The number of applicants registering to take the Foreign Service Officer Test this year will be fewer than half the 17,000 who registered just two years ago, she wrote.

Stephenson wasn’t the only top diplomat with harsh words for the White House this week.

“Quite frankly, this administration is categorically destroying the Department of State and devaluing diplomacy as something important in this world,” said Wendy Sherman, former undersecretary of state for political affairs under President Barack Obama, speaking Nov. 6 at Foreign Policy‘s Diplomat of the Year event in Washington (Sherman was named this year as National Security Diplomat of the Year).

And Trump keeps setting records! Why won't the lying liberal press mention how many records he has set?
====================
President Trump has made more than 2,000 false or misleading claims over 355 days
Glenn Kessler and Meg Kelly
January 10

As of Jan. 10, President Trump has made 2,001 false or misleading claims since taking office. He now averages 5.6 per day.

With just 10 days before he finishes his first year as president, Trump has made 2,001 false or misleading claims in 355 days, according to our database that analyzes, categorizes and tracks every suspect statement uttered by the president. That’s an average of more than 5.6 claims a day.

When we started this project, originally aimed at the president’s first 100 days, he averaged 4.9 claims a day. At that pace, it appeared unlikely the president would break 2,000 in a year. But the longer the president has been in the job, the more frequently he touts an assortment of exaggerated, dubious or false claims.

As regular readers know, the president has a tendency to repeat himself — often. There are now nearly 70 claims that he has repeated three or more times. Indeed, he crossed the 2,000 threshold during his one-hour discussion on Jan. 9 with lawmakers about immigration, tossing out some of his old favorites about the subject:

“We can build the wall in one year and we can build it for much less money than what they’re talking about.”

In the diversity visa lottery, “what’s in their hand are the worst of the worst but they put people in that they don’t want into a lottery and the United States takes those people.”

“We have tremendous numbers of people and drugs pouring into our country. So in order to secure [the border] we need a wall.”
In fact:

Under no scenario can the wall on the Mexican border be built in just one year. It’s at least a four-year project that could cost $25 billion.

Individuals apply for the visa system, and must have at least a high school diploma or work in specific industries to be eligible for the program. As the term “lottery” implies, applicants are selected via a randomized computer drawing. The selected applicants undergo a background check before entering the country, and some applicants undergo an additional in-depth review if they are considered a security risk.

The wall will have virtually no effect on drugs coming into the country. According to reports by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the majority of drugs are smuggled through legal ports of entry or underground tunnels.

. . . .

We currently have a tie for Trump’s most repeated claims, both made 61 times. Both of these claims date from the start of Trump’s presidency and to a large extent have faded as talking points.

One of these claims was some variation of the statement that the Affordable Care Act is dying and “essentially dead.” The Congressional Budget Office has said that the Obamacare exchanges, despite well-documented issues, are not imploding and are expected to remain stable for the foreseeable future. Indeed, healthy enrollment for the coming year has surprised health-care experts. Trump used to say this a lot, but he’s quieted down since his efforts to repeal the law flopped.

Trump also repeatedly takes credit for events or business decisions that happened before he took the oath of office — or had even been elected. Sixty-one times, he has touted that he secured business investments and job announcements that had been previously announced and could easily be found with a Google search.

This guy will go far in the Trump administration. Summary:

Ambassador says there are no-go zones in the Netherlands because of Muslims. When asked about it, he replied "I never said that! Fake news!" The interviewer then plays the tape of him saying that, and asks him why he thinks it's fake news. "I didn't call it fake news," he said.

It's looking more and more like "fake news" really means "damn, you caught me."

==============
The new US ambassador to the Netherlands lied twice to a Dutch news crew about 2015 comments he made saying the country was in chaos because of Muslims.

"Chaos in the Netherlands. There are cars being burned. There are politicians that are being burned ... and yes, there are no-go zones in the Netherlands," said now-US ambassador to the Netherlands Peter Hoekstra in 2015. . .

When Wouter Zwart of CNN affiliate and Dutch broadcaster NOS asked about those comments in an interview in the US Capitol, Ambassador Hoekstra said he never said them.

"That is actually an incorrect statement; we would call it fake news," the Ambassador responded. "I never said that."

Zwart then played the specific portion of Ambassador Hoekstra's 2015 comments . .

After an additional discussion on terrorism with the Ambassador, Zwart says he discussed the comments again. His report picks back up with the exchange, with Zwart saying, "You call it fake news. Obviously."

"I didn't call that fake news," the Ambassador interjects. "I didn't use the words today. I didn't think I did."

Speaking of honesty, the head of homeland security is testifying before the Judiciary Committee and says she didn't know that Norway was a predominately white country. Who among us believes that?

The same dipshits that believe that Europe and particularly Scandinavia are being 'over run' by Muslim immigrants.

Don't you know that the whites are being displaced by all those Arabs coming in from the Middle East?
Soon, all of northern Europe will be 'majority muslim'. Don't you read Breitbart?

We really need a sarcasm font.

So, maybe those are the immigrants from Norway he meant! See? He really is sensitive to the needs of the refugees.
