Phil1111 1,149 #1 December 1, 2017 I'll start by saying I know many Christians with the highest values. They seem befuddled by the whole concept of telling a lie. A holiday to them is going off to a little dips**t country to help build schools ,install power and dig wells, etc. They give stunning amounts of money to charity. quade 4 #5 December 1, 2017 Read a fascinating book lately called, "Fantasyland: How America Went Haywire: A 500-Year History" by Kurt Andersen. The premise of the book are the lies we tell ourselves about various aspects of American life and religion is a huge part of it. Specifically, religion as practiced in America and how people are encouraged to "believe" virtually anything they want to, which opens up the floodgates for charlatans and hucksters. I have LONG maintained that the US is a country where virtually everyone has their thumb on the scale in one way or another. I have no problem with "small" religion. Hey, whatever gets you through your pain probably is helpful. What I intensely HATE with every fiber of my being is "big" religion which preys on those who pray. Televangelists can properly go fuck themselves. EVERY DAMN ONE OF THEM. Politicians who use religion as both a shield and weapon can go fuck themselves. Criminals who use religion to justify their actions can go fuck themselves. Busybodies who want to tell me what to do with my life because of their religion can go fuck themselves. Idiots who deny science and progress because they believe god will sort it out can go fuck themselves. It's not religion I have a problem with, it's mostly the people.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

RonD1120 62 #15 December 4, 2017 I have thought about this thread since the OP and believed a response was appropriate. The reason is that I see the premise of the OP as false. The main point was Christian values are misplaced. I disagree because Christian values are more personal and individual than social. Oddly enough, a divine manifestation maybe, an article in Zion's Fire magazine, a division of Zion's Hope Ministry, appeared in the current issue to address this subject. Therefore I shall borrow heavily from the author David Ettinger in my response. First, we are involved in a culture war. It is a war between us and them. “Us” is defined as God, His Son Jesus Christ and His Holy Word, the Bible. “Them” refers to Satan, the Prince of Power of this world and his demonic spiritual minions. To the Christian, culture is the world system orderd, lorded over and controlled by Satan. Christian values are expressed in terms of how we should conduct ourselves as individuals not participation is Satan's world system. 1. Do not conform. Be transformed by the renewing of your mind. 2. Be aware. Spiritually feed yourself on all things good and pure. Read your Bible daily. 3. Be compassionate. Never consider anyone unworthy of hearing the Truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Christians are in this world but not part of it. We are not to surrender to Satan's cultural rules. We are to stand against them. We are a “chosen generation, a peculiar people.” The world naturally hates us because of what we believe, that is our faith in Christ. As Christians we do not fight the culture war. We should only stand by our Holy Spirit guided conscience. Satan controls the culture and the battle is in the heavenly realms. Our mission is only to proclaim the “Good News” of Jesus Christ. As Christians we may not all agree on all things. Some of us are liberal and some conservative. All of us are centered on Christ as the Truth, the Way and the Life for all eternity. Those are our values.Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them. The main point was Christian values are misplaced. I disagree because Christian values are more personal and individual than social... Really? You don't think your values as a "Christian" should impact how you treat others? You think that because "culture is...controlled by Satan" that you can treat others in any way you please? Does the idea of a "culture war" mean that others who haven't "found Jesus" hate you and you can do to them what you wish? Helpful hint: Many people don't hate "Christians" because of what they believe", they are hated because of their hypocrisy - Look at Ray Moore. Sexual predator, liar, all around "scoundrel", yet loudly proclaims his "faith". Clearly a "CINO". Or should you actually follow the teachings of Christ? And treat others in the way He suggests? ALL others, not just the ones who look like you and think like you? As Jesus suggests."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." The results of Hout and Fischer’s analysis were congruent with their hypothesis, though given the limitations of their methods, one could reasonably claim that they failed to decisively prove their case. But in the subsequent decade and a half, additional research has further strengthened their argument. American Grace, by Robert Putnam and David Campbell, for example, argued that declining levels of religious affiliation can be partly attributed to the Christian Right. A subsequent study by Hout and Fischer provided similar results.
