ryoder 1,590 #77 January 6, 2019 RonD1120 Yep, calling President Trump a motherf***er indicates a new level of class in the D party. And when Trump used the same word in a public speech in 2011, that was classy, right? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wN7KHWdyrbI"There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. billvon 3,006 #80 January 6, 2019 >You all are so far off the concept I do not know how to respond. Perhaps this will help: Trump calls people motherf*ckers - that seems OK with you. He's just expressing himself. What, are those people such sensitive snowflakes that they need a safe space? Pussies! People call Trump a motherf*cker - well, that's unacceptable to you. It's a breakdown in our culture. People who use it have no class. Do you see a problem there? If you still don't know how to respond: Matthew 7:3-5: "And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye." If that doesn't help: Matthew 25:40: "And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ " Or if that's not your religion any more: Mosaic law: “Whatever is hurtful to you, do not do to any other person.” Qur'an 83:1-6: "Pay, Oh Children of Adam, as you would love to be paid, and be just as you would love to have justice!" wmw999 2,456 #84 January 7, 2019 Back to Ocasio-Cortez... I saw her on “60 Minutes” last night. Her demeanor is young-woman, which doesn’t normally come off as full of gravitas (which most people expect from office-holders). I, being of a generation that’s more used to deep voices in the government, thought she might have sounded lightweight, but her words didn’t necessarily. She’s mirroring some of what I hear from her generational cohort; it’s time for a new generation to come in and change things up, the same way that the boomers started to in the 70’s. Wendy P.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. I thought that she was poised and refreshing. Although some of her economic ideas are impractical, poorly researched, if not outright mistakes. On balance I think she is an enthusiastic, articulate counterbalance to the dangerous ideas of the old, conservative guard of the republican elite. The moderating influences of committee and experience. Will hopefully put some sound economics behind some of her more extreme ideas. What she brings is honesty, integrity and a purity of purpose. As evidenced by her refusal to accept lobby money. With the exception of small amounts of union monies. Her refusal to be swayed by established special interest groups. She is a great example of WHY democracy will always triumph over central control of the state. Why diversity is strenght. "Ocasio-Cortez attended Yorktown High School, graduating in 2007,[16] where she won second prize in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair with a microbiology research project on the effect of antioxidants on C. elegans' lifespan.[17] As a result, the International Astronomical Union named a small asteroid after her: 23238 Ocasio-Cortez.[18][19] In high school, she took part in the National Hispanic Institute's Lorenzo de Zavala (LDZ) Youth Legislative Session. She later became the LDZ Secretary of State while she attended Boston University. Ocasio-Cortez had a John F. Lopez Fellowship.[20] In 2008, while Ocasio-Cortez was a sophomore at Boston University, her father died of lung cancer.[21][22] During college, she was an intern in the immigration office of U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy.[23] She graduated cum laude from Boston University's College of Arts and Sciences in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in international relations and a minor in economics.[20][24][25]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandria_Ocasio-Cortez She is no Angela Merkel, or Obama in intellect. But she is only 29 years old. She makes trump look like a burned out, dusty, old, incandescent light bulb. Next to a 100 watt powered up LED.

Her refusal to be swayed by established special interest groups. As you know, I am also a fan of hers. For many of the reasons you put so well. But I would say that this particular one is somewhat meaningless going forward. In the district that she now holds it is unlikely she will need to spend much money to be reelected. Many members of congress have no such luxury. If they want to keep the job they need to raise the funds. If they want to advance within the party they need to raise even more funds. TriGirl 319 #91 January 8, 2019 wolfriverjoe Well, it's a bit funny* She is being called a 'fraud' and 'too young'. Yet Paul Ryan was called a 'genius' when he was elected. At 28, the same age. Is she being treated differently because she's a Democrat, because she's a woman or because she has brown skin and a Hispanic name? * - Ironic funny, not amusing in the least. Also ironically, she was a bartender when she decided to run. A friend of mine who worked on and with the hill for 20 years said she just couldn't take Speaker Ryan seriously, as he used to be her bartender. (ETA: Has anyone ever seen him in person? I ran into him late last summer. He is not incredibly tall, and therefore is quite slender. There is an equal amount of democrats that are dissatisfied with the old established party. Representatives like her can stir them up and give voice to those with stagnant wages. All of the "great benefits" from the trump millionaires and billionaires, tax cuts. That of course never materialized for the working poor. trump and wall street have spent the $one trillion in tax cuts. The fed just stated that wages are not adding to inflation.
