Riders of rohan 0 #1 Posted August 6, 2019 (edited) Ive been out of the sport for 5 years, I have an A license with 30 jumps, skydiving has never left my thoughts and it was only due to having kids and moving cities, renovating a house that I had to take a break, literally every month for the last 5 years I’ve been saying to my self “maybe next month”. well the time has finally come, I’m booked in to redo ground school on Thursday and hopefully a check out jump or 2 and I’ll be current again. I’m that excited about it I’ve even bought a rig (javelin odyssey) which has a sabre 2 190. I know it was a bit hasty, but was just wondering if a wing loading of 1:15 is high for a newbie. I’ll be 210lbs out the door, I have an option of swapping it for a 210 pulse but would love to hang on to it. Will I look like a d@#k head if I rock up to the DZ with my rig? I know my instructor will best advise but 2 days seems like an unreasonable amount of time for me to find out. husslr187 24 #2 August 7, 2019 That wingloading was about where I was when I was at 50 jumps but I remained current up until that point. If you can get a 210 in there for a little while it would be in your best interest.
CoolBeans 11 #3 August 7, 2019 You could rent bigger rig for 10-15 jumps which will give you peace of mind and make all instructors happy. In the meantime, choose one with different canopy than Sabre 2, so you learn and recognize differences between them.

johnmatrix 21 #5 August 7, 2019 It sounds like you've bought a good rig for you but the advice above to see if you can find a 210 to go with for a bit first is good advice - but hang on to the 190. My first rig was a Sabre 2 190 loaded at 1.15 and 900 jumps later I'm still using it. Great canopy.
Maddingo 21 #6 August 12, 2019 Jump on a non busy day, try to land it, fly it. If you struggle on final approaches go a step back.
