I attended that flight school, with students from multiple countries.  Now I also work in security cooperation, which includes all the programs that bring foreign students to our schools (and us to theirs).  I can see where you would want to think this, but actually, they need to be integrated. If they're buying our stuff, and we exercise/train/deploy with them globally, we need to learn together.

And yes, there is the rule about private weapons on bases, but like pretty much all other firearm-related laws, they can only be enforced once they're demonstrably broken (read: punished for violating)

I do understand the shared/common access required on certain platforms. Having attended top secret training with Chinese nationalists was rather interesting to say the least.

We did not have the weapons access issues with them though, obviously it would seem.

Those times appear to be quite different than where we are now from my perspective.

 

Agreed on the weapons rules as well, only the random stops at the gates appeared to me to be the risk of carrying. Always seemed more of a trust/respect thing at the time.

 

Scariest time I ever experienced at a gate when I was active duty was a physical altercation at the main gate that was a simple case of racism from the Marine guard as he insulted my friend and his wife as we went through the gate. My friend stopped the car and took the Marine down. Interracial relationships seem to be an issue with some folks. Still.

Neither my friend nor I were charged or in any trouble whatsoever, the Marine was prosecuted right out of the service.

Getting caught with a carload of fireworks for the 4th of July as I entered a nuclear facility was my second most challenging base access issue. Became rather good friends with the C.O. over that one.

Hate to hear about the racism bullshit that STILL happens (and sexism, and ... etc).  Glad the system worked like it should.

Loved the nuclear facility fireworks story.  Made me chuckle!
