But I wonder - Did they just let them go into the atmosphere? Is that a form of pollution?

If we want to stick it to oil and gas, I'm fine with that, but the poor folks who will have to bear the burden of what amounts to a highly regressive tax when the financial will be passed on to them might not be. I think the oil, gas and coal companies should receive a tax credit for all of the beneficial CO2 they are contributing to the planet. We were talking about this a while back, the subsidies were in place to get it started and there wasn't much lobbying to keep them because they're now a profitable enterprise. Win/Win. And renewables create hundreds of thousands of jobs - and solar fab equipment is one of the few bits of technology the US exports, to the delight of the people working in those industries and pulling in dollars from China. Oil may subsidize the government; renewables subsidize the people. And the power renewables generate is often privately owned; people use solar to generate their own energy independent of government owned utilities. No wonder the deep state loves oil and hates renewables. They can't control them. Perhaps once the government figures out how to tax sunlight and wind you'll get behind them. I believe that would solely depend on the impact to his income.
kallend 2,063 #9 January 16, 2020 (edited) Federal deficit exceeded $1Trillion in 2019. According to the Treasury, In the last 3 years Federal revenues have increased by an average of 2.6 percent per year. Spending has increased by 5.7 percent per year, and the deficit has grown by 20.8 percent per year. YetTrump promised to eliminate the debt. He also promised that Mexico would pay for The Wall, that Hillary would be locked up, that he'd introduce a wonderful healthcare plan, that he'd release his tax returns, and that he'd be too busy to play golf. wolfriverjoe 1,523 #11 January 16, 2020 Well, on the other hand, he claimed he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and get away with it. So far, he's committed numerous felonies, violated international law and threatened to commit war crimes. And the Republican party keeps on ignoring those crimes.
