Oh please.  Like no previous generation has been exposed to massive amounts of media.

Been to a house with young kids recently?  You'll most likely hear discussions about screen time limits.  Compare that to 30 years ago where TV's were often used as babysitters.  We are, in general, smarter today about media exposure to kids.

Yes I have been to a house with kids.  Seen any kids with smartphones lately?  I don't proclaim to know all there is to know about the media but it's far more pervasive today than ever before, and in ways I'm just now becoming aware of.  Example; we were gifted Echo for the holidays.  Set it up and immediately I notice the channels on my FireTV stick are showing 100% Amazon and Amazon related commercials.  I think it's stopped and might have just been a coincidence but I can't see the screen until Mr. Scott invents transparent aluminum...foil.

Dude, he is referring to a guy who has been accused of raping 3 women and sexually assaulting 11.  Who bragged about getting away with those assults on a TV show.  Whose son just posted a picture of his AR-15 with a picture of Hillary Clinton on it alongside a white supremacist symbol.  Who mocks disabled reporters at campaign rallies.  Who mocks wounded veterans and Gold Star families via tweets - while his wife supposedly battles online bullying.  Who supports white nationalism.  Who called Mexicans rapists, and black and Arab countries "shitholes."

If you're going to be a snowflake about this, perhaps find a different person to be a snowflake about.  Someone who doesn't specialize in doing precisely what makes you (supposedly) not take someone else seriously.

So, there is no strive to be better then.

"Its OK, because the people we mock are so much worse!"

I get it.

Sure there is "strive" to be better.  Calling someone orange is way, way better than sexually assaulting women.  So yes, Rifleman is "strive" to be better - and succeeding.

Media is certainly _different_ nowadays.  Newspapers, billboards, broadcast media, magazines and printed books are on the decline, while push media on mobile devices is on the upswing.  On the plus side, parents are a lot more aware of it, and most take steps to limit/curate their kid's consumption of media.

Personally I get exposed to way less advertising these days because I don't listen to broadcast radio or TV any more.  That's true for a lot of people, since there are so many options for no ad/limited ad pull media sources, as well as better options for local storage of media (stored music, video etc)
