Some want to go right now. They think this whole thing is overblown and we should open up the country today (or yesterday). A couple of them are in Texas.

Others are at the other end. They likely wouldn't get on an Otter until there's a vaccine. 

I tend to be in the middle. Once the restrictions are relaxed, once the new cases are waaay down, I'll think about it. Most likely start at the closer 182 DZ (30 min drive), only 4 plus pilot. 
When I'd be comfortable going down to the Otter DZ (about 2 hours away) is something that I won't really 'decide that it's time until I decide that it's time'. 

 

Edit to add: Part of that decision would be based on the activity in the hangar. There's a lot of interaction that doesn't involve the plane.

Thanks Joe. I'm hoping others will give feedback, too. Me, I'll wait to see if there is a replay before I cram into an Otter with 22 of my closest friends. The other problem is the social aspect. I'm a hugger and that's a problem when the huggee is someone you've been jumping with for decades. I'm sure you know it, but only 4 jumpers packed as tight is only a psychological advantage.

Some of those same jumpers post some really reactionary and offensive stuff, and then get bent out of shape telling me not to be so thin-skinned when I go all serious and say "you mean people like me?" and stuff like that.

I'm a 'hugger' too. That may change after all of this. 
Fauci has mentioned that this may be the end of shaking hands as a greeting. 
I think a lot of 'social norms' may change.

Waiting a few weeks to see if there's a 'rebound' after restrictions are relaxed is something I'll likely do too. 

And I agree somewhat that 4 in a 182 is largely psychological, but there's simple numbers to it too.

5x or 6x the people means that much more likelyhood that someone is infected. 
Not less contact or less chance of getting infected if someone in the plane is infected, but just less chance of someone being infected.
Plus, as I noted, the 182 DZ is going to have a lot fewer people in the hangar. 

Both of those 'smaller numbers' would make me more comfortable. 
Psychological to some degree, but numbers/odds are also a factor.

I'm currently working hard on figuring this out. We have two 182s. I'm planning on grounding one of them to save insurance costs. I'm getting mixed signals from jumpers. I'm guessing that if they could half of them would show up and jump and half would stay away. I am going to be the one making the decision when to open I think, and it is weighing heavily on me. We should have good enough weather in the beginning of May. Right now locally, non-essential businesses are ordered closed. For sure we will not operate till than ends, so that relieves some pressure. I will have aircraft and pilots good to go anyway. I will start slowly with staff recurrency jumps and see how that goes. We will be restricting spectators. If we start accepting tandems (if TIs are willing) it will be only a few and only one friend on the ground.

Personally I will be willing to get into the aircraft with my friends as long as I know they have been being careful. I am far less willing to skydive strapped to strangers. Manitoba has been doing very well and has very low numbers compared with nearly everywhere else. If I were in a more heavily infected area I would not even consider opening.

Not around here.  Parks are closed, beaches are closed, trails are closed.  The right wingers got all in a tizzy because a surfer was arrested the other day for surfing off a public beach.  About a dozen people were arrested for hanging around in parks over the past week or so in San Diego. 

And that's true at least a hundred miles up the coast from here.

That was over 100 years ago. Reporting then was inaccurate at best and no one was keeping records anyway because no one knew which bunch of foreign bastards was actually behind the flu. As you know the nation had strong isolationist tendencies at the time. In fact, I'm pretty sure that until the scope of the problem and the horrendous impact of it were well understood it was called "The Good Ol' American Sniffles". Look that up before quoting me.

Possibly. I actually tried finding out if it caused any discrimination against Spanish speakers around the world but couldn’t find anything either way. By all accounts it was inaccurate though. The pandemic didn’t originate there or was it a particular hotspot - it just so happened that Spain was one of the only countries affected early whose press wasn’t still heavily censored due to the war. It gave the rest of the world the impression that Spain was worst off when they were simply the only people telling the truth.

I can tell you right now that most of the beaches down here have been closed for nearly 2 weeks with police enforcement.

There are two notable exceptions. Imperial beach, in a very depressed area with a high Mexican population that no-one gives a shit about because they're poor, and Coronado beach, in in incredibly rich, white area who don't think rules should apply to them.

The "Stay at Home" order in Wisconsin specifically allows people to go outside for exercise. 
People are supposed to stay away from each other, and follow all the other guidelines.

As part of the order,to give people the opportunity to get out and be active, the Governor suspended the access sticker requirements for the State Parks. People going into the parks are required to buy a sticker and put it in their windshield ($20 for a year).

Last week, many (not all) of the parks were ordered closed. People were gathering in larger groups, getting quite close to each other, plus there was a huge increase in litter and vandalism. 

Go figure. Make it free and the assholes trash it.
