Drone privacy - what would YOU do?

Three times now, a drone from a nearby neighbors house has taken off and loitered about 50ft over our back yard while my wife is in the hot tub. It's a large drone with a camera on it. We've not seen or heard it flying at all at other times.

I can see where it takes off from and lands. The owner is a young 20-something guy who lives with his mother and walks all over her.

The police say they can't really do much as while it's illegal, it's not criminal. They could ask him to stop but that's about all and a restraining order is unlikely to be a quick or easy process.

The law states that you are not allowed to interfere with or destroy the drone as it's technically running under FAA rules. There have been many stories of people being sued after doing this.

 

So what do you do?

 

 

My solution - The last time, I followed it back and walked into the back garden of the house as the guy was picking up the drone and asked him politely to stop flying over my house. I may or may not have been holding a baseball bat.

I've not seen the drone since.

Get your own drone and go air to air.

Invest in the restraining order.

Use security camera footage to document it.

Call the FAA and register a complaint against flight operations.

If the Drone is over 57 grams it must be licensed.

In the USA, FAA regulations on flying a UAS (FAA-speak for "drone") are quite strict about flying over people or structures.  If this one is really loitering at low altitude over your house and people in your yard, it is certainly in violation.  Additionally, although local authorities do not have the ability to set their own regulations in conflict with the FARs, they DO have the ability to prosecute public nuisance statutes.  Further, any LEO (including your local Officer Friendly) is authorized to inspect the paperwork showing that said UAS and its operator are legal. Even the operator of a "recreational" drone weighing over 250g has to  be registered with the FAA and have documentation to prove it. The drone also has to be marked with the operator's registration number on an external surface.

How do I know this?  I obtained my FAR Part 107 "Remote Pilot" certificate in the first week that they were available (Sept 2016), and am also registered as a recreational UAS operator.

He just keeps pointing out over and over again just how frequently your replies are completely irrelevant because you fail to address key points. Because you can't be bothered to keep up. It seems to be more important to you to speak than it is to you to listen. Kallend is capable of far more than condensation. It's not like everyone here gets the same treatment from him. Yes, he was wrong.  No, he will never apologize no matter what you say.  Does it really bother you that much?  I mean, he does this several times a day, and he 'wins' if he gets your goat.  You can always block him if you like.
