I'm not wishing her well in keeping her freedom. I don't think that being in prison for a signifcant portion of the rest of her life will be good for her wellbeing. While the US system does seem to focus too much on punishment and nowhere near enough on rehabilitation, there is still a point where part of the whole purpose of prison is that you are less well there than you are free.
