JoeWeber 2,720 #1 Posted September 15, 2020 Alrighty then, "according to press reports", it's time to threaten Iran with annihilation. Not according to actionable intelligence. Nope, our president only uses the best sources: OANN and Fox and Friends.
obelixtim 150 #2 September 15, 2020 Starting a war has already been predicted. Just another tactic which he will use to try to get support. Pre emptive strike anyone? He doesn't have much left in his locker. Can the military refuse to carry it out if they perceive it to be unlawful?
phantomII 37 #3 September 15, 2020 Since Soleimani got mentioned by Trump, was it ever established that his killing was legitimized by american laws?

Rather surprised Turtle hasn’t already jumped in with a rationalisation

US law is currently interpreted by Barr and Congress. Case closed. According to recent tweets US officers and service personnel are the warmongers. trump is the dove. "I'm not saying the military's in love with me -- the soldiers are, the top people in the Pentagon probably aren't because they want to do nothing but fight wars so that all of those wonderful companies that make the bombs and make the planes and make everything else stay happy," In another month trump will start ordering carriers to be sent over to the gulf. The "Q" and trumpists will all be applauding .armageddon. Edited September 15, 2020 by Phil1111

The top generals see as much intel as the president does (and they actually read it). If the Joint Chiefs of Staff decided that the intel didn't justify an attack, or that the attack would be illegal (similar, but not quite the same), then they could and should refuse that order. "Because I was ordered to" is not a defense in a court of law. It would be unprecedented, but what about this administration isn't? Given how Trump has treated the military, I wouldn't expect blind obedience to his commands.

He should just tell people that if there is an attack herd mentality will make it go away by itself.

Herd mentality, of course, being a spot on description of Trumps base.
