megamalfunction 1 #1 March 5, 2017 I just got done watching the movie "Dropzone" with Wesley Snipes and one of the planes featured in the movie looked really familiar. Does anyone know if the C-47 "Southern Cross" was used in the movie?

Rickendiver 6 #3 March 6, 2017 From this link, it looks like there were 2 DC-3's used in the movie. The one painted white is clearly not Southern Cross. Southern Cross has Wright R-1820 engines & not the P&W R-1830's that the one in the movie has. The pictures of the one in camo aren't clear enough for me to tell http://www.impdb.org/index.php?title=Drop_Zone
nolhtairt 0 #4 March 6, 2017 Ah... the Pink Flamingo Porter... I've actually done the bomb bay door jumps when it was at Gold Coast Skydivers in Moss Point, MS. Good times. "Jesus Jessie! Don't you think maybe you better go get him?!?" "MMM, lemme put my goggles on first"

muff528 3 #6 March 7, 2017 Mr. Douglas, and Wiki says the green one is on display at a warbird museum in Titusville, FL. So that would be "TICO Belle". Not familiar with that one.

IIRC, Mr. Douglas is still sitting on the tarmac at the Tullahoma TN airport after blowing an engine over a decade ago. It's been a while since I heard any news, but as far as I know, that's the last known location. ETA: Looks like it's still there. https://www.google.com/maps/@35.3788535,-86.2409618,94m/data=!3m1!1e3

diablopilot 2 #10 March 11, 2017 She's still there, and from what I've heard, Basler looked at it at one time and is not interested. I shot a few photos on a road trip through there. It's a good bet she'll never fly again....---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
megamalfunction 1 #11 March 12, 2017 Thanks for all of the replies everyone! It sounds like the DC3 I jumped had a very similar paint scheme as the one in the movie, but isn't the same plane.
