CDergins 0 #1 May 18, 2006 Hi all, I've been jumping now for 5 years and I have about 130 jumps. I put on a little weight over the holidays. Okay a lot of weight. I've spent the past couple of hours trying to find a site that will provide me the Maximum Recommended Wing Loading for my Hornet 190. My exit weight currently (I am trying to lose weight) is 235 lbs. This puts me at a wing loading of 1.2:1 with rounding. 1.236842 with out rounding. I am atheletic, 5'11, I have broad shoulders and big thighs (where most of the weight is). I exercise and play sports. I just didn't for the winter months and my girlfriend is a great cook. I am a safe skydiver. I could handle my canopy very well when my exit weight was 215 lbs. (1.1:1 lowest i've ever been) but I am unsure how much the canopy will change with my added weight. Since I purchased my canopy I have jumped it more then 40 times and have only had to plf on 2 occasions. One on a very windy day and the other because of a bad spot. I sometimes purposely land downwind becuase I like the speed and responsiveness of the canopy. Obviously, I would not want to try this right off the bat. I know some of you might say, upsize temporarily. I don't want to upsize becuase A) I can't afford it. B) I am definitely losing the weight. So my question is: 1) Do you think it would be safe to jump my canopy at 1.2:1 wing loading? 2) Does anyone know where I can find (ONLINE) any or all the manufacurers recommendations for a Hornet 190. (Aerodyne does not provide the information for Hornets) I REALLY want to start jumping again! Please advise, Chad Dergins Have fun!
ChrisL 2 #2 May 18, 2006 1.2 isnt crazy, but given an average of 26 jumps a year you arent terribly current most of the time. That fact would tend to make me suggest you err on the side of caution. Lose those extra lbs or get a larger canopy and keep it around 1:1 I put on some weight last year, and rather than just have my WL increase, I bought a larger canopy. I cut that weight off again and now I'm returning to the smaller size canopy. As a bodybuilder I have bulking and cutting phases. I dont want my WL bouncing up and down just because my weight does...__ My mighty steed

I should probably have mentioned that of the 5 years in the sport 3 of those years was just to get my license. I jumped about 10 times a month last year on average from March to October 16th.Have fun!
davelepka 4 #4 May 18, 2006 Chad, Get your panties out your crack and relax. I'm sure you'll do fine with the ectra baggage. You've always been a conservative pilot, just keep that up. If you really have cocnerns, Sherry might have a 210 around that you can hook up to your container when you're at the DZ. If not, you could aslo ask around, and see who has a 210 you can borrow, and then just jump on days when they won't be around. Let me know of you need any help with the rigging if you do deciede to borrow a canopy.

I feel better knowing that someone else thinks i'm a conservative pilot. Thanks, ChadHave fun!
