Is it worth it to work in the tunnel?

Maybe as many of the skydivers out there, I'm thinking about working in a wind tunnel to be that badass tunnel rat.

Pros:

- Working with something that I love

- Possibility to fly much more than what I'm able to now.

- Spending work time with like-minded colleagues instead of whuffo colleagues.

- Saving money through stop buying tunnel time

Cons:

- Varying/uncomfortable work times

- Lower income

- It's not as stable and economically safe job as the one I already have.

- Monotonous work tasks (flying the first timers)

Have you thought about it your self? what have you decided att the end and why?

Pay for passion, work for income. 

When you turn fun into work, fun just becomes work. 

I've done both. For me, it's a lot happier/healthier to separate work and play.

And on the other hand some people say: If you find a job you love, you'll never work again.

It's a nice saying but reality is more complicated than that. 

"If you find a job you love, that doesn't pay enough income, you'll work your ass off until you don't love it like you used to. But if you find a job you love that pays enough income, you'll never work again."

That might be more complete. It's up to you to determine what "enough income" means.

Working with first-timers does not have to be boring. It all depends upon your attitude. The best thing about working with newbies is that you get a new audience every day ... for your corny old jokes.

You basically take on debt to pay to become a tunnel rat and then work off your debt. You could do the same by just paying $10k. The opportunity cost is high going the instructor route if you have the ability to earn more doing something else.

If you’re getting into it to get to fly all the time, that’s the wrong motivation. If you’re getting into it because you like hospitality, customer experience and entertainment, then it might be a good move for you.

Until it comes time to pay the bills and you realize minimum wage doesnt buy you much more than the back of your car to sleep in.

Get a job that pays well and everything else in life will be easier. Get a job that doesent allow you to afford even the most basic of necessitates and even the funnest of jobs will feel like hell.
