Yesterday, Tennessee fired Dr. Michelle Fiscus, its top vaccine expert, because she encouraged teens to get vaccinated to try to slow the spread of the disease. Only 38 percent of Tennesseans are fully vaccinated, one of the lowest rates in the country. As a result, new infections have more than doubled in the state in less than a month, and many of those new cases are the Delta variant.

Back in 1987, the Tennessee Supreme Court established what's known as the Mature Minor Doctrine under which teens ages 14 to 17 can get medical care without parental consent. Health care providers who were giving vaccine shots kept asking Fiscus if they were allowed to vaccinate teens.

So in May, she e-mailed the Health Department's lawyer for a statement about the doctrine. The lawyer sent her back a new summary of the doctrine that had recently been posted to the health department's website "and is blessed by the Governor's office. This is forward facing so feel free to distribute to anyone."

So she did just that, sending the health department summary to all providers who were administering vaccines and had been asking about vaccinating teens without parental consent.

Well, somebody didn't like the doctrine, so they posted it on social media, and predictably, Republican lawmakers in Tennessee freaked out. They ignored the fact that the doctrine had the force of law, and instead started screaming that Fiscus was trying to undermine parental authority.

She was fired.

So why does he stay silent when his minions are actively discouraging people from getting it?

Because there's no way Trump will approve of anything Biden recommends.

 

The only 'card' they have left is 'we hate Biden and the Ds'.

Idea for the Dems: A smear campaign pointing out that the vaccines were developed while Trump was in power, and he failed to stop them. LOL!

WASHINGTON — The federal government has sent hundreds of ventilators and other equipment this week to help Florida respond to a record number of Covid hospitalizations.

The devices, which came from the federal government's Strategic National Stockpile, included 200 ventilators and 100 smaller breathing devices and related supplies, said an official of the Department of Health and Human Services.

 

A record number of people have been hospitalized in Florida in a surge of Covid infections being driven largely by the unvaccinated, public health officials have said.

On Tuesday, 14,787 people were hospitalized for Covid-19, 145 percent more than during the state's previous peak in July 2020, according to the Florida Hospital Association. Nearly 90 percent of the state's intensive care beds were in use, and 85 percent of all patient beds were filled, the group said.

From what I'm seeing, the death total yesterday included the cumulative totals from over the weekend (both days had zero reported deaths). Wisconsin is doing something similar, where weekend numbers aren't reported and then are lumped into Monday data. That's why the 7 day averages are considered a better metric.

 

Florida 7 day average deaths:

 July 7 - 15.

Yesterday - 170.

More than a ten-fold increase in a bit over a month.

 

Seven day average new cases:

June 28th - 1053.

Yesterday - 56036.

Fifty times.
