Hello...New here

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

Im new here and start my AFF in two weeks at CPI. Cant wait to get started. Did a tandem way way back in the day and two AFF's in college. Finally I am able to afford to go at this full throttle, so I am excited!

Any pointers or advice?!? Also looking to get my own gear by summer time. I will talk to my instructor about that, and will probably go with used gear.

Any suggestions on that or anything else...well, im all ears;)

Assuming you're in the US (can't tell since there's no information in your profile and I don't know what/where CPI is), start with this. It'll give you a good idea of what your training is likely to be like and will be a valuable resource throughout your training.

There's articles in the Safety section of this site that also have some good info in them, including great articles by Lisa Briggs on buying gear.

Of course, your primary source of info at this point in your skydiving career should be your instructors.

I am a coach at CPI. The only advice I have is relax and listen. If you have any specific questions let me know. If I am unable to answer them I will have our Chief AFF instructor answer them for you. Look forward to jumping with you.

thanks James! Was great to get my first three AFF jumps in. One and Two went well, three was good up until the last 6 or 8 seconds.

Not discouraged though....coming back the next weekend im home and hope to be able to jump fri-sun. Want to get 5 or 6 jumps in...over those 3 days if the weather permits.

Have to re-do jump 3/c-1 again. was stable for first few seconds after the release, but then had a rt turn start, tried to correct, but didnt quite get it.

JM's redocked and we tried again, saw we were coming up on pull time, so i waved and went for the pull....i missed the handle, so JM pulled for me.

But overall they say im doing well! We will see how next time goes.

Good for you.. Make the best out of itB|

It's something that your going to have to learn anyway and why not a miserable day. :(

the good part about is that if the weather man is wrong:o like that ever happened then your will be ready to jump. maybe even your own pack job...

have fun and stay safe........

Jump my own pack job...haha, then the nerves will be off the chart:o;)

The trick is...When you're packing, pretend it's for someone else. And when you're jumping, pretend someone packed it who knew what they were doing. ;)

Looks like tomorrow will be a fun filled day of learning to pack! Got two sweet jumps in today. My c1 repeat....passed and c2....passed.

I did pretty good on the c2, and was very impressed with myself!! I was psyched and willl try to get one in the morning if the weathers holds.

Update....did 5 more jumps. D1,D2,E1,E2, and F1. All passed!!B| the barrell rolls, front and back loops were hella fun!! And the tracking was pretty sweet too....except i needed to de-arch alittle more.

But overall i did pretty well the instructors said. Also gotto do my first diving exit and some exits with no instructors hanging on to me. That was a little nerve racking at first, but getting better.

The nerves seem to be high the first jump every weekend, but im having a blast!!

Oh yeah, the last jump was packed about 70% by me with the help of J at the dz. He helped with the flaking and such, but i did most of the work putting it in the bag, stowing lines and closing the container!!

And it opened pretty nicely:P
