kallend 2,149 #1 Posted January 26, 2022 When I came to the USA in 1977 the thought that anyone would seriously consider the end of US democracy in my lifetime was just not credible. Yet here it is:https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/01/26/trump-2024-electoral-count-act-reform/ Here’s the unsettling reality: If the ECA isn’t revised, under certain scenarios, all it would take for a future effort to succeed is a single corrupt GOP governor and a GOP-controlled House of Representatives. This pathway to a subverted 2024 election is spelled out in the new paper by legal scholar Matthew Seligman, who has written extensively about the ECA’s history and weaknesses, and the ways Trump tried to exploit them in 2020. Etc.

I can't remember if you've retired or not) a college professor. You indoctrinate the innocent and naive young minds with your 'liberal elite' brainwashing. You teach these young people how to think for themselves> And to question the status quo. Things like rights for the downtrodden. Protecting the environment. Caring for other people. You (personally) are responsible for the decline and fall of modern civilization. Damnit, we really need a 'sarcasm' font.
Phil1111 1,183 #5 February 1, 2022 Like some things in America the power of cash pushes opinions. Not in the sense where votes are bought and some are. Bur more in the sub-rosa arena of FB advertising. Of using fear and lies to achieve political objectives. Recent reporting is that trump has a campaign war chest of $122 million. So about double what the GOP party has. In some respects the republican base has moved even farther to the right than even trump. Look at the booing trump received when he voiced his recent idea that vaccines are good. trump has proven to be adaptable, even cunning, in his approach to the right base.He will seize the political ground that he thinks will control 2024. Be it even further to the right than the GOP. Or something even more sinister. trump and his cash will still be around in 2024. Can democracy triumph? A re-elected trump looking to get revenge on those who he perceives "wronged" him (which by my count would be just about everyone) would be a bad day for the whole world, except the hyper bigoted few who happen to closely align with his beliefs.

Some voters and politicians like payback. Look at the applause the Mr. McConnell got when he engineered the swing of the USSC.For hard core tribalists revenge and payback for perceived excesses from the "other side". Is the lifeblood of motivation. Look at the satisfaction Brent gets should a green environmental project suffer setbacks. When a windmill topples in the wind farm. The noise of the crash is drown out by the applause of the right.

Don't disagree - but the orange toddler throwing all of his toys out of the pram might be a fairly unpleasant and immediate experience also.
