The prosecution of war can mean victories or control of the sea. Enemy killed or captured. Land taken and controlled. But mostly its the will of the people and their forces to continue war. The cohesive will of one side, their weapons, their ideology to overcome those factors of the enemy. For now Ukraine is winning and looks more likely to dictate the terms of peace. With unlimited conscription Putin could still put that all in doubt. But the cost to Russia would likely be very, very high. Russian troops are now lacking equipment, will, national cohesiveness, a central raison d'etre for being in Ukraine. Nuclear, attacks on the power grid, etc. are all red herrings. Putin has control over the messaging in Russia. Putin has control over the "meat" he can throw into battle. I doubt in the end those two factors will be enough to overcome plucky Ukrainian willpower.
