In other good news. Ukraine has done more for the promotion of senior officers in the Russian military since Stalin. The recent attack on the Russian Naval headquarters killed a Russian admiral and wounded another. Vladimir Putin's top man in Crimea - head of Russia's Black Sea Fleet Admiral Viktor Nikolayevich Sokolov was reported to have been leading a meeting of top Russian commanders. Once again Ukrainian/American intelligence is spot on.

Don't feel sad for him and his family. He fearlessly launched Russian cruise missiles on Ukrainian hospitals and kindergartens.

I heard one analyst talking about the Kerch bridge saying that unfortunately it's unrealistic to hope that cruise missiles or ATACAMS alone will destroy the Kerch bridge because it's simply a type of structure that is very tolerant of having lots of holes blown in it. The number of missiles it would take to guarantee long term closure of the bridge would be better used elsewhere. That said, now that Ukraine has knocked out enough of Russia's high quality air defenses south of Kherson and along the west coast of Crimea up to Sevastopol, they'll be able to do a damn good job of making Crimea uninhabitable for Russian warships, commanders and supply dumps.

 

Somewhat amusing that the Russians initially claimed only one serviceperson was killed in the HQ strike, and later downgraded that to just 'missing'. Now it appears that the commander of the fleet may have been killed, with two more Generals in the ICU / comas. I wonder how much they're being deceived by their own misinformation.

Putin's thugs won't have to engage in physical measures for a while. New reporting has 34 Russian officers killed and 105 personnel wounded. Per normal Russian reporting one person has been listed as MIA. As long as someone is not reported as 200 (KIA) then no benefits need be paid out to the families.

Which of course is bad news for Putin.

The cluster munition is more of a tactical warhead, useful against troops in the open, light transport and lightly armored vehicles.  They are nearly useless against bunkers, tanks, railways and bridges.

Which is somewhat contrary to a long range weapons system but its better than nothing. Perhaps the Ukrainians will swap out a penetrating warhead so they can send more Russian officers to the Winter Palace in the sky.

Gen. Mark A. Milley was interviewed about the US sending ATACAMS to Ukraine. A true political officer he did a song and dance on how Ukraine didn't need them. That they were the wrong weapon system for their needs, etc. I could certainly see why he got promoted to where he was.

They're really dead because mad Tsar Putin decided he wanted to invade and subjugate a neighbouring country, and to murder anyone remotely in opposition to him in the territory he's seized, and you have steadfastly supported him in that goal. Yeah, and it'll work too. We both know there's nothing the Kremlin loves more than a good old purge of disloyal officers - whether they exist or not. So the Ukrainian strike on BSF HQ will end up hobbling Russian command and control even more than the number of high ranking casualties already has.

Funnily enough this is possibly the worst day for the Russian Navy since the entire Pacific fleet leadership was killed in a plane crash on the way back to Vladivostok from a high command conference. The accident was caused by improper weight and balance - the generals had packed it full of the good booze and household luxuries that just weren't available in the outskirts of the Soviet Union and then bullied the pilot into taking off anyway with threats of the Siberian Gulag for insubordination. So both catastrophes were self inflicted.
